Suggestions for football and the US National Team

Football is always going to be a massive topic, and there are plenty of us here who actually want to talk about the games. But what inevitably happens is these threads get absolutely swamped by anti-fans.

Look, I’m not exactly a fan of the Democratic Party either, but I wish I could just have a normal conversation about which left back we should start or where Lionel Messi should be positioned on the pitch without being hit by a wall of posts like, "LOL, you club fanatics, you're all in Jerry Maguire's pocket, you're pathetic, I don't even care about the national team, I'm just posting this tenth time to show how much I don't care." And if you even try to disagree? You get hit with immediate, aggressive attacks. Honestly, I'm actually backing this one suggestion I saw earlier—it feels pretty damn reasonable:

"Hey, trolls, if you haven't noticed, people talk about football 365 days a year, so why don't you losers crawl out of your stinking holes just to ruin the vibe?"

If you want to trash the Democratic Party, fine—you have every right to. Just let there be specific threads for that, so those of us who actually want to discuss football can finally do it.

I’m not a mod over on the Football boards, but looking at this from an outsider's perspective—with a bit of a moderator's mindset—your idea isn't necessarily bad, you just picked the wrong example to prove it... See, following a game or something similar, like watching American Idol, usually turns into a chat thread, and those threads are pretty much unregulated by default...
While the game is actually happening, or whatever show is on, the thread basically becomes a giant group chat where it's nearly impossible to enforce strict rules about what people can or can't say.

Everything else is up to the guys running the Football section, but in threads like these, you really can't stop someone from posting, whether they're rooting for Mexico to lose or crying tears of joy thinking about that 91st-minute goal when Lionel Messi scores... Or if they just want to talk about the play itself.

And another thing I’ve been noticing is that calling people "primitive losers popping out of smelly holes" isn't being flagged for a ban, even though it's clearly just a low-brow insult directed at the forum members...

Alright, let’s shift the focus toward the moderation side of things for a second. This kind of toxic insults—whether we're talking about a specific thread or just general chatter—is basically the gold standard over there. And the mods? They either look the other way or practically give their blessing to it.

I try to keep things civil over there, using the same tone I use here, but then I get hit by mod Mitch, who actually had the nerve to tell me that people in real life don't even like me and that I'm nobody's favorite. Unbelievable.

You've completely missed the point of football. 😉

People don't just talk about the action while the clock is running; they talk about it during the days leading up to a big matchup, too. That's when football becomes a major topic of conversation for everyone, even for folks who wouldn't normally care about the sport.

The PDF regarding football, specifically that section about the American national team, is just getting completely bogged down in the swampy, repetitive nonsense written by those overworked desk jockeys.

Trolls and aggressive types are everywhere online, but apparently, they’re part of the moderation team here too. I used to post all the time, but now I just lurk occasionally. It’s hard to deal with people attacking me, claiming I don't have the right to chime in during the World Cup or the Euros just because I didn't spend the entire year talking about soccer.

Since this forum keeps giving them so much attention, why don't we just shut those poor souls up once and for all...

Maybe we could just compile everything into a dedicated PDF file, you know, something titled "Pelé, Jerry Jones, and Other Total Nonsense," or maybe "I Have a Tiny Ego, Now What?" or just some other nonsense along those lines...

Just move them all into one separate document where they can spend their time trashing Jerry Jones, Pelé, and those other little conspiracists, while actually just bickering amongst themselves for as long as they feel like it...

Calling people 'lowlifes' and saying they 'crawled out of some gutter'... why aren't these insults getting deleted or banned?
For pages at a time, there isn't even a single sentence about the game. It's just the old guard attacking other users instead of talking football, especially since they already have their own dedicated thread where they can rant all they want.
Just a bunch of frustrated guys taking it out on everyone else when they can't vent about the actual match here. And the mods? They’re just watching. Maybe they're too busy, I guess. If that's the case, just hand the baton to someone who actually has the time... otherwise, we're all just gonna end up flaming each other while the real game talk moves to some side forum under a mod who actually enforces the rules.

It would be about time if we, the hat makers, actually had our own dedicated space. Instead, we’re stuck listening to those self-righteous "experts" and so-called soccer gurus who do nothing but spout pure nonsense all day long.
