Alright, so, just like I promised—here’s the rundown for our Hollywood movie league. For anyone who’s feeling a bit lost on how this works, here are the ground rules:
We’re looking at ten different categories. Just shoot me a DM with one suggestion for each category—and hey, maybe throw in a backup choice too, just in case your first pick doesn't make the cut. You can totally use the same movie for multiple categories if you want. Once we’ve got all the suggestions tallied up, we’ll start voting, working our way backward from the last category to the first. Send your votes to my inbox, same deal. As for how the scoring works... I'll figure that out once we see how many people actually jump in. It really depends on the turnout, right? At the end of the whole thing, we'll tally up everyone's total points to find our winner.

So, here are the categories we’re playing with:

Best Movie
Best leading man
Best female lead
Best villain
Best female villain
Best supporting actor
Best supporting actress
Best couple
Best soundtrack/song
Most hated character

Feel free to start flooding my inbox whenever you're ready! 😁

Joshua Smith19, why on earth are you bringing this up in the chat?
Why isn't this posted in the TV series section instead?
And honestly, I think we should probably reopen the Hollywood thread first.
It would give people a chance to actually get acquainted with the movies, since, let's face it, not many forum members have really dove into the film selection lately.
Plus, putting a topic like this here in the chat feels a bit misplaced, I guess.

Why isn't this over in the TV shows section?
And we really ought to reopen that Hollywood thread first
so everyone can actually get up to speed on what's out there—since, let's be honest, not many people on this board have been watching movies lately.
Plus, you're just dropping the topic here in the chat.

I’ve been chewing on this for a while now... honestly, it wouldn't make any sense to host a game about movies in the TV series section. And the Movie subforum? That place is way too serious. I bet the mods would just nuked the thread immediately. 😁
To me, keeping it in the chat feels like the most logical move.

The chat is getting flooded with people deleting threads
and the post counts aren't even tracking correctly anymore
plus, I bet the trolls are going to start crashing this place too
I honestly don't know why you didn't just ask Witch to pin a thread about Hollywood hits at the top
though, if you think about it, we could probably have a dedicated thread for movies in general too
it’s pretty simple—just ask the moderator over there and you're set
because, let's be real, this specific thread is just not working as a chat topic.
There used to be a thread for Hollywood films in the chat, but they went ahead and locked it down
which felt completely pointless, if you ask me.

I've submitted my nominations, I just can't quite recall who the antagonist was.

I’ll try to pull a list together tomorrow once I’ve had a chance to jog my memory on everything I've watched. I want to make sure I actually nominate those supporting roles and villains properly; otherwise, I pretty much have the rest figured out.

I put together this little list for you guys—hopefully it makes picking something out a bit less of a headache.

I sent over a negative character too. It was the only one I could think of that actually fits the description.
Watching these games made me realize how thin and hollow villains have become in modern movies and web series. But honestly? Classic TV shows still nail it for the export market 🤣 And I’m not just talking about those cheap soap operas, either—I mean the complex, magnetic female villains that really stick with you.

Joshua Smith19, you might as well just toss that list straight into the trash
because ninety percent of it is absolute garbage
Hollywood churns out millions of movies every single year
and maybe one in a thousand is actually worth your time
trust me on this.
In the States, those foreign soaps flooded the market right after the recession hit
and honestly, they were total bottom-of-the-barrel junk—mostly just cheap, low-budget melodrama.
It wasn't until much later that they started producing stuff with actual prestige and decent production value
though, historically, those studios were notorious for having incredibly low budgets.
You’d be better off heading over to an Amazon group on Facebook and grabbing their curated lists
or checking out some other local community groups there. They actually put together useful lists with direct links to where you can watch everything. Wikipedia just gives you a dry list without any links to where you can actually find a subtitled version.

Right now, that link you sent over from Joshua Smith19 is basically undergoing some major reconstruction. So, yeah... it’s pretty much useless at the moment.

Since there are only two people signed up so far, this might just end up being a total bust... nothing really coming of it.

So, following ironcobra13's recommendation—because she really knows her stuff—here’s that link for those Turkish films translated by Amazon
https://m.vk.com/videos-84230655?section=playlist_5

P. S. Just a heads up, you'll need to sign up for Facebook to actually watch them. It's nothing crazy, though—pretty much the exact same process as setting up an account on Facebook.

So, basically just Narin and I have submitted our lists.
Hopefully there are more people signing up; I really hope I didn't waste my time putting this whole thing together. 🙂
ironcobra13, you in for a game?

Casey Thomas, I’ve honestly watched way too many movies to even attempt making a definitive list
and since ninety percent of them aren't even available on Amazon
I really don't know how to approach this
But, just off the top of my head, here is a quick rundown. You should be able to find these either on Amazon or via some groups over on Facebook
1. Gonul Yarasi - This was my very first foray into Turkish cinema, and I have such a soft spot for it. You can find it with Russian or English subtitles, but I don't think an American translation exists yet.
2. Babam ve oglum, starring Fikret Kuskan and Chetan Tekindor. It’s actually been ranked among the top hundred films in the world, which is wild.
3. Dedemin insanlari - Amazon actually has a translation for this one.
4. Ikimizin yerine - There's a version on Amazon translated by the dazzling team. Personally, I adore this one because of Zerrin Tekindor and my absolute favorite, Nejat Isler.
5. 5. Mucize - Available on Amazon.
6. Love loves coincidences, both parts. They're on Netflix and also on Amazon.
So, yeah, that’s just what I could pull together right now. I have hundreds more in my head, but these are the ones that come to mind when I think about Turkish films
They're the ones that always hit home first.

Hayat Out of the ones you mentioned, I’ve only seen Love Loves Coincidences, and honestly, it’s one of my all-time favorites of theirs. I’ve watched maybe 40 or 50 of their movies, but since they’re mostly rom-coms or straight-up comedies, I struggled a bit putting together this list of villains and characters I absolutely loathe...

Casey Thomas, this is exactly what I consider the gold standard. Honestly, whenever someone brings up the Turkish film league, this is the first thing that pops into my head.
Don't get me wrong, I’ve watched the comedies too.
But those are really just my "unwind after a long day" movies. I wouldn't go so far as to call them life-changing or anything.
The films I mentioned earlier? They actually left an impression on me. A deep one. I find myself thinking about them quite often.
They’re true stories about life—or at least stories that force you to reflect on how you live yours.
There’s humor in them, sure, but it’s that subtle, gentle kind of wit.
Then you have the heavy scenes, too, but everything is wrapped up so thoughtfully.
I could probably list a bunch of other titles, but let's face it, nobody here has seen them.
And since there aren't even any English subtitles available, there’s really no point in me listing them.
For instance, any film starring Nejat Isler
or Timucin Esen. Most of those are genuinely high-quality pieces, but I suppose they aren't exactly "blockbuster" material for the general public.

I’ve watched maybe twenty, possibly more, films from the Turkish film league...
Some hit harder than others, I guess. That's just how they are.😁
It's hard to pick just one standout, but there are a few...
1. My Mother's Wound (2016)
A special film. Owen Wilson is a genius in this role, I suppose.
2. Love Loves Coincidences 2
My first Turkish film from about ten years ago. The script left me speechless.
3. Second Chance
4. Vizier's Finger
5. The Most Beautiful Smell in the World
6. Only You
7. Gece... really touched me. The acting was out of this world. Julia Roberts and Mert Fırat were brilliant.
8. What remains of you
9. Once Upon a Time - Mert Fırat and Melissa Sözen, great stuff.🙏
10. The Little Eylül Matter... beautiful Farah and Engin. ♥
Honestly, I haven't even listed half of them. I had to check with Amazon just to remember titles, since I can't keep them straight.
There are at least that many more.🕺
I don't see the point in trying to organize these into categories with specific rules... no, probably not.
