Super Bowl VII: The Budget Edition

Core features of the seventh edition of Super Bowl VII:

Number of players: 8 - 32
Tournament format: Group stage + knockout stage
Minimum odds per pick: 1.80
Prize pool: Stjepan Radić ($200 cash prize)

GENERAL RULES FOR SUPER BOWL

1) Odds are sourced exclusively from DraftKings sportsbook

2) In the event of a tie, the average odds of the winning picks will be rounded to three decimal places.

3) You are not allowed to bet on the exact same game as your opponent—no hedging against them. Duplicate matchups in head-to-head duels aren't permitted; essentially, only one bet can be placed per specific event.

4) Betting on player props (like over/under points or goals) counts as a separate type of bet. It is possible to bet on multiple players from a single game, provided your opponent hasn't already claimed them.

5) If a game is postponed or marked as void, a player may submit a replacement pick if there is still time left in the current round. If the round deadline has passed, it will be recorded as a loss for that pick.

6) We ask that players submitting their picks one by one always quote all their picks for that round so that all 3 picks for the round are clearly visible in the final post.

1. GROUP STAGE

Participants are split into groups containing 4 or more teams. The format is a double round-robin where everyone plays each other. The top two teams from each group advance to the knockout stage.

The group stage consists of 6 or more rounds. Each round lasts 3 days.

SCORING AND GROUP SYSTEM

Each head-to-head duel lasts 3 days, during which competitors must submit 3 picks. Picks can be submitted all at once or individually. A win in any duel earns 3 points, a draw earns 1 point, and a loss results in 0 points.

In the event of a tie in total points between two teams in a group after all 3 rounds are completed, the following tiebreakers apply:

1) higher number of winning picks
2) higher average odds
3) winner of the head-to-head matchup
4) whoever was the first to submit all 9 picks

2. KNOCKOUT STAGE

Each head-to-head match lasts one week and is played over 3 rounds. The first round runs from DAY 1-DAY 3 (00:00 - 23:59), the second from DAY 4-DAY 5 (00:00 - 23:59), and the third from DAY 6-DAY 7 (00:00 - 23:59).

During each round, a competitor is required to post 3 picks within the designated timeframe. You can post your picks all at once or one by one.

RESULTS

Each correct pick earns 1 point, making the maximum possible score 9.

The winner is whoever gets more successful picks to advance to the next round. If both players end up with the same number of hits, the tiebreaker goes to:

1) the one with the higher average odds on their winning picks.
2) the one who posted all 3 picks for the last 3 rounds first.

Why on earth did they get rid of the entry fee? That was actually the best part, $17 because when everyone chips in, the prize pool gets massive 🤷

Look, we were doing $100 per head and barely had 10 people signed up. This tournament is going to run on a more communal, shared-cost system this time around. Maybe we'll go back to the old way later, but for right now, this works better for me for a bunch of different reasons.
