How to trim MP3 audio files?

Hey guys, I grabbed this entire opera from YouTube and need to split it up onto three separate CDs. I used to just throw everything into iMovie, but since you can't import raw audio files there anymore, I've been importing it as an mp4, cutting it up, and then exporting it back to audio. It’s painfully slow. Is there a better way to just take an mp3 and slice it into three pieces at specific spots? 🙄

Well, various YouTube-downloaders (specifically those websites) often give you the option to grab just the audio as an MP3 alongside the standard MP4 video download. Now, the real question is: are they actually pulling the highest possible bitrate available?

I get it. I even grabbed the MP3 version, but how on earth do I split this thing into three parts? There are tons of programs out there, but honestly, Audacity feels way too complicated for me, and everything else either won't handle a file this massive—it’s nearly three hours long—or it just chokes. Even with iMovie, I have to use an MP4, and it takes forever to load.

Give MP3 Cutter a shot—it’s a tiny, straightforward little tool. I used to use it all the time to trim down huge mixes. You really can't get any simpler than that.

Does anyone know where I can grab a free version of that MP3 Cutter software? I’m trying to burn some music onto CDs for an upcoming event, and I need something to trim out those dead silent gaps at the start of tracks so the music kicks in right away... if you happen to know of any other programs that do the trick, let me know.

For me, nothing beats the old Cool Edit days... though Creative Cloud 2017 handles those MP4 audio recordings just fine...
