Hey Walmart, 😁I’m calling on you to open up a space for anyone looking to hang out, chat about whatever comes to mind, and just dive into random conversations... all while keeping things chill, respectful, and totally drama-free. No fighting, no attitude, no judging allowed.
I also want to invite all our old regulars who left our favorite sub-forum to come over here and pick up right where they left off with the good old-fashioned small talk.
Of course, everyone is welcome as long as you aren't into those heavy-handed debates, trolling, or acting like a know-it-all.

Well, look who decided to start a thread. 🎉

I’m happy to join everyone else in such high spirits.

I just got back from a quiet little patch of woods. Didn't run into any animals, which was probably for the best since I was busy hunting for mushrooms. Most of the porcinis were playing hide-and-seek and stayed out of sight, but I still came home with plenty of chanterelles, black trumpets, oyster mushrooms, hen-of-the-woods, pigeon milk, a few russulas, and some king boletes.
Just to be clear, those guys didn't wander off and get lost—they grew right there in the dirt. I wouldn't want anyone accusing me of kidnapping them. 🤣

Now I have my work cut out for me cleaning and prepping this forest haul. Once I get them all sorted in the kitchen, I'll check back in.🙂

Looking at the stem, I’d say it’s some kind of dwarf variety, but everything else about it screams predator...
I haven't come across one before. Once I get my hands free, I'll check if Roman Bozac recognizes this thing.

Veli Bozac says it's an autumn porcini. Helvella crispa fries. If that's what it is, it's edible. If not, it doesn't matter—it's still edible.

It feels like I've got a thorn stuck in my heart that I just can't pull out. Some things you just have to face, then let your body and time do the work to let it go.

That was poetic... they weren't exactly teenagers, but let's just say they weren't exactly spring chickens either. (55+)
I really hope they see how much we welcome them here. Maybe they'll decide to swing by and keep the good times rolling?
We haven't talked much about cooking lately—it’s been all about back pain, nursing homes, gardening, and cat stories. But honestly, wouldn't we have plenty to say about food too?

I’m not cooking anything today. I spent half of yesterday stuck in the kitchen...
The stove is taking a day off, and lunch is "hunter style." Whatever anyone happens to find in the fridge.
Just a heads up, though—I definitely have the upper hand compared to everyone else in this house. 👋

I was wondering—why on earth would you choose to have a wood and coal stove, Walmart? 🙂

Yeah, and during the summer we just cook over whatever charcoal we have left from the winter. 😛

Of course I’m not old, I just don't get why my sons think it's worth me coming home from Arlington National Cemetery..
