What’s the actual recommended daily limit for sugar intake if you don't want to wreck your health?
The internet is just a massive, confusing mess of conflicting advice. One site tells you to stay under 25 grams, then the next one says 200 grams is fine. It’s all over the place.

I get that there’s a difference between men and women when it comes to metabolic stuff. What I really want to know is how much sugar a guy can realistically consume daily without basically inviting Type 2 diabetes to move in.

I have a bit of a sweet tooth—not gonna lie—and I usually polish off a 100-gram bar of Hershey's pretty much every day. A bar like that can pack about 50 grams of sugar. Is that pushing it too far?

If you’re an adult man trying to stay on top of things, you really shouldn't be pushing past about 60 grams of sugar a day. Of course, that number isn't set in stone—it fluctuates depending on how old you are and whether you're actually moving around or just sitting at a desk all day. But here’s the thing: don't get tunnel vision by only looking at the sugar count. You also have to consider the glycemic index of what you're eating. Foods with a high glycemic index act like a sudden spike in your system, sending your blood sugar levels through the roof. You can easily find a breakdown of those values if you search online. Honestly, it’s probably a good idea to check your glucose levels every once in a while just to see where you stand.

Did you pick that up from an actual doctor or some medical specialist, or was it just something you stumbled upon online?
The internet is basically a minefield of misinformation these days. I really need to make sure what I'm reading is actually legit; I'm trying to stay ahead of things and protect myself from all those health issues that come with eating way too much sugar.👍

The internet is basically a minefield of misinformation, and I really need to make sure what I'm reading is actually legit since I'm trying to stay ahead of any health issues linked to eating too much sugar.👍

I actually pulled this from a nutrition book, and according to the sources cited there, the data was released by the FDA. This is meant to be the absolute ceiling for daily intake, which is why I brought up the glycemic index in the first place. There’s a massive amount of conflicting advice out there regarding how much sugar is "healthy," mostly because it all depends on whether you're calculating it as 10% of your total daily caloric intake or looking at what your metabolism specifically requires to function. Look, I’m far from being a medical professional, but with diabetes running in my family, I've learned that the only real way to know where you stand is through regular blood glucose monitoring.

The internet is a mess of conflicting info. You'll find everything from 25 grams to 200 grams.

I know there's a difference between men and women. I just want to know how much sugar a guy can eat per day without basically inviting diabetes to dinner.

I have a sweet tooth and usually polish off a 100-gram chocolate bar every single day. That's about 50 grams of sugar right there. Isn't that overkill?

A whole chocolate bar every day is definitely too much. Stick to one square at most.

But I should probably warn you about something that happens to me, which is actually the exact opposite problem.
Basically, I barely touch sweets, I don't drink soda, and I rarely eat dessert.

First off, your hunger signals get pretty muted. Personally, I eat on a schedule rather than when I'm actually hungry because I hardly feel any hunger at all.

However, if I miscalculate my intake—meaning, if I don't hit my carb targets—my blood sugar can crash hard, leaving me completely wiped out.
In those moments, I have to grab something sweet just to get my energy back up.

Cut back. If you're dealing with an addiction, at least switch to dark chocolate. For instance, a 70% cocoa bar has 33g of carbs, with 28g being sugar.

A 92% cocoa bar has 13g of carbs, with only 7g of sugar.

So if that's the case, why does the FDA still insist on putting those RDA numbers—the Reference Daily Intake—right there on every single food label?
Based on their own math, it looks like they’re suggesting we should be aiming for somewhere around 90 grams of sugar a day.

Based on their own math, it looks like they’re suggesting we should be knocking back about 90 grams of sugar every single day.

Are you thinking specifically about dietary supplements? Because I haven't seen anything quite like that on standard grocery store items.

Check out the value sitting down in the bottom right corner there.

I honestly didn't even catch that just now. It seems like every different source you look at gives you a slightly different number...
