Nail implantation?

Hey everyone.

Awkward question, but I have to ask—does anyone know if there's a doctor in Washington, D.C. or Miami who performs nail implants? I’ve lost one, and it looks like it's never coming back because the root is exposed.

Toenails take forever to grow back once they're completely gone. I lost a toenail last summer, and it still hasn't fully grown out. It took at least two or three weeks just to see any sign of growth starting from the root.
As for nail implants? No idea.

I lost a nail back in November last year, and there’s still absolutely nothing there—no regrowth, not even a hint of a root. My manicurist told me the chances of it ever coming back are slim since we haven't even seen any sign of a root starting to develop yet.

I lost a nail late last year, around November, and there's still nothing—not even a hint of a root or a nail plate. My aesthetician told me there's a slim chance it'll ever grow back since there hasn't been any movement at the base yet.

Why not just head to a dermatologist and get a professional opinion? I agree—the nail should have started growing by now, which suggests you might have damaged the root. What actually happened?

First it was an ingrown nail, then fungus, then the whole thing just started thickening up. Eventually, I reached my breaking point and just started ripping at it myself because I was honestly done with the endless cycle of creams, lasers, and treatments. I’m planning to head back to the surgeon who handled the initial issue to get a second look, and then follow up with a dermatologist. My esthetician really spooked me, though—she basically told me there’s nothing anyone can do at this stage and that I'm out of options. Meanwhile, the surgeon mentioned that if the nail keeps growing back deformed, he might have to remove the root entirely. If that happens, I'd have to see a plastic surgeon to get a prosthetic nail installed just so I could finally be done with this mess. I’m feeling pretty lost on what the next move should be. Sorry for the long vent. And thanks for getting back to me.

I had mine surgically removed due to fungus once, too. It grew back perfectly healthy. Why listen to an esthetician when you have a doctor's advice? Good luck.

Yeah, I’m going to see a doctor as soon as possible to get their take on this. I just wanted to see if anyone here has actually gone through with a nail implant, because frankly, I'm terrified. I really don't want to be stuck looking like this for the rest of my life.
