The books haven't even released their lines yet. Even if they do, it’ll likely just be a carbon copy of last year's offerings. That means the odds for Alonso finishing in the top 8 could actually be quite high. Once practice sessions wrap up, those lines will shift significantly. Honestly, I doubt a place like DraftKings will even post their odds before practice starts, and if they do, the numbers might be pretty interesting🙂, considering how nonsensical the lines were last year. I'm hoping for a similar trend here!

We really need to check the odds on Haas. There's a chance the bookies might underestimate them. As for everything else, I'm not sure where the value lies; I suspect the lines for Renault, McLaren, and Red Bull will be pretty realistic.

Even Supersport is offering some bets starting today, and they’ve clearly been doing their homework. They have Kevin Magnussen and Grosjean both sitting in the top 8 at 2.5, while Fernando Alonso is listed at 1.55 for a top 8 finish. Based on pure pace, the teams seem to be ranked roughly like this: Mercedes, Ferrari, Red Bull, McLaren, Haas, and Renault.🙂
As for the fastest lap, Alonso is at 35; that might be worth a shot. A win for Max Verstappen at 7 is also on the table.

Honestly, it wouldn't be a bad move to put some cash on Alonso grabbing fastest lap. It’s totally doable. All it takes is him pitting for a fresh set of hypers if they have a gap of maybe six or seven laps left at the end.
I’m feeling like Max winning is even less likely right now, though it's definitely not out of the question.

Mercedes, Red Bull, and Ferrari look solid, but McLaren might actually end up being fifth in terms of pure pace. Force India is looking surprisingly strong too, and Williams is probably going to be a massive disappointment...🍿

A 2.20 gap means Fernando Alonso isn't fighting for position while he's only 2.10 ahead of Stoffel Vandoorne. Given those ridiculous reliability issues McLaren dealt with during testing, I wouldn't be shocked if they ran into something similar here.

Watching this FP2 session and I have to say, the most impressive thing right now is how much Red Bull Racing has stepped up compared to last season. If Renault can actually squeeze a bit more performance out of that engine, they might just be able to challenge Mercedes for the title—honestly, they might already be in the conversation.

Mercedes is fast, but man, I thought they’d be even more dominant... They’re lightyears ahead in the first sector, but the rest of the lap is pretty underwhelming.

Ferrari is struggling. It’s obvious Vettel is having a rough time during these practice runs.
Haas is easily the "best of the rest" here. They aren't even that far off from Ferrari, which really highlights just how much Ferrari is hurting right now.

Mercedes is king (Valtteri Bottas was absolutely flying on the softs), even if Ferrari isn't trailing by too much. Red Bull Racing is looking like the worst of the bunch here...

Haas is looking killer! I'm really hoping these hints about their form aren't just talk and that they actually jump straight to the top of the midfield.

If Ferrari isn't seriously sandbagging right now, they're looking at another season defined by disappointment. Red Bull looks solid—I think they have a real shot at winning races—but we'll have to see how things play out once the season gets going. In my opinion, Max Verstappen is still way too green and tends to overdrive the car, while Daniel Ricciardo seems stuck in a rut he just can't break out of. As for McLaren, there are no more excuses; they’re running the same engine as Red Bull Racing, so given their resources, they should be performing at least as well as the teams currently sitting ahead of them. Toro Rosso, Williams, and Force India are a disaster; they'll be lucky if they even pick up any scraps this year. Haas, however, is the big surprise this weekend—they might actually walk away with some decent points here.

Daniel Ricciardo is getting a 3-place grid penalty for failing to slow down sufficiently under the red flag, plus he's picking up 2 penalty points.
