What sticks in my mind most?
When I was just a kid, I thought I was invincible—nothing really fazed me. Well, except for old Joe. 🕺🕺
He was this local drunk who always hung out on a low stone wall right on the path leading to my apartment building.
With his long red hair, flushed face, and that raspy, gravelly voice, he seemed absolutely terrifying to me. He was perpetually hammered, always shouting at someone or just muttering to himself under his breath.

I remember whenever I’d spot him, I would just freeze solid right where I stood. My mom tells me now that the man actually smiled at me and said hello quite a few times, but back then? I was convinced he was threatening to kill me. 🤣🤣

Anyway, that went on from when I was three until I was about seven. Then, one day, I heard that old Joe had passed away. If I'm being honest, I felt a huge sense of relief that he was gone.
Looking back now, though... I actually feel bad about it. 😳
