Rampage (2018)

Rampage is an upcoming sci-fi creature flick inspired by the video game of the same name.

Primatologist David Okoye (Dwayne Johnson) forms a lifelong bond with George—a highly intelligent albino gorilla he's looked after since day one. Unfortunately, thanks to some shady genetic experimentation, this gentle giant undergoes a mutation that turns him into a massive, rampaging beast. To make matters worse, a wolf named Ralph and a crocodile called Lizzie have also mutated. In an attempt to save the country from these monsters tearing through everything in sight, David Okoye teams up with a genetic engineer (Naomie Harris) to develop an antidote and try to reign them in.

This just smells like a massive budget wasted on a total trash movie.
As much as I enjoy seeing giant monsters on the big screen, I might have to think twice before actually paying to see this one. It looks even worse than the last King Kong, which honestly wasn't much to begin with.

If it stars Dwayne, it's definitely a comedy.

Ugh... pure fantasy. Honestly, I have a soft spot for these kinds of trashy movies. I’ve even grown to enjoy those new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles flicks. But this? This actually caught my eye because it stars Dwayne Johnson. I'm genuinely curious to see how he pulls this off.
I can hardly wait for tomorrow. I'll be heading to the theater to catch it in the original audio with subtitles. None of that annoying dubbing that Americans seem to love so much.

...I'm into him. A winged wolf sounds pretty cool, though the background gives me major Zootopia vibes—like someone's out here turning animals into monsters and predators into psychos. Can't wait...

Even with my expectations set pretty low, this movie was just straight-up boring. Honestly, maybe the last ten minutes were somewhat fun, but that’s about it. You can totally skip this one—I only went because I scored some free tickets, though looking back, I probably should've had a drink or two before sitting down.

They have this one funny gag that they repeat three different times—once at the start and then again at the end. It’s such a cheap, lazy joke, but whatever. Seriously though, George the Monkey has way more charisma than the entire cast put together.

Personally, I thought the movie was... great. I was absolutely buzzing from all the action—there was this porcupine-like wolf, a caiman, and a wild boar. But honestly, what really got to me was the bond between George the Monkey and Davis Okoye. Look, I try to stay objective, but I just adore Dwayne Johnson. I’ll watch just about anything he's in. Though, I definitely prefer watching with the original audio.
That plane scene was pretty incredible. I loved his signing; the guy is such a natural performer. That dude who plays her colleague from the firm was a bit underwhelming for me. But if you're an action junkie, you're going to love it. I certainly did. And honestly, anyone watching me would have probably burst out laughing at my reactions! For me, it's an 8/10.

So, I just finished watching this, and man, it’s the exact same director behind San Andreas. Just like I suspected, it’s basically San Andreas but with three giant hybrids thrown into the mix instead.
I actually dug San Andreas, so I’m feeling the same vibe here—it’s got that massive disaster spectacle going on without all that annoying, useless filler crap that wastes everyone's time. Honestly? Pretty well put together.
We get a solid, straightforward setup, a killer setting (around Chicago), some characters you can actually latch onto, high-octane action, and the helicopter sound design is legit. That’s it for me. I'm satisfied.

The only thing that totally drove me up the wall was how the scale of the monsters kept changing from one scene to the next. Like, how big are they supposed to be? Pick a size!

Honestly, this was a surprisingly fun popcorn flick. It actually had way more entertainment value than that Spielberg movie, Player One.

It was actually kind of fun to watch, honestly... a total popcorn flick through and through. You can clearly see the influence of those Godzilla movies all over it...
I’d give it a solid 6.5/10.

So I just finished watching it, and honestly, it was pretty decent. It’s nothing groundbreaking or anything, but it's definitely worth a watch if you have the time. The sound design was solid, the special effects held up well enough, and they managed to cast a few actors I actually enjoy seeing on screen. Plus, the runtime felt right—it didn't drag on forever or feel like they were just padding out the scenes for no reason.
I suppose if you're someone who just wants some high-octane action without having to overthink every single plot point, this is right up your alley. Just sit back and let it roll. 👍
