It’s not really my thing personally, but I still find myself lurking in the pregnancy and parenting subreddits for old emotional reasons.

I honestly don't get why the parenting topic was moved to the "off" section—especially since I see pregnant women constantly asking where they can go for general parenting chats. It used to be similar to how we had that dedicated "Senior Citizens" thread on the main forum; it made perfect sense because people would just migrate there from the pregnancy threads after giving birth.

I'm wondering if there's any chance of bringing a dedicated thread back? Because once you move things to the "off" section, half the users don't even realize it exists.

Back in the day, we had that "senior citizens group" over on the main board, which made perfect sense; people would just transition from the pregnancy threads to that group once the baby arrived.

I'm wondering if we could consider bringing that topic back, because since it's in the off section now, half the community doesn't even realize it exists.

The main board isn't the parenting hub; rather, some of the parents just migrated over to the off section.

The chat is on the main board (the old senior group, it's here)

Chatting on the parenting board (which used to be the seniors group, if this is still the spot)

Thanks for the reply.

I know both of them, but neither really hits the mark for me.

New moms seem to vibe better in the generational groups rather than hanging out with those "lost souls"—at least, that’s my take 🤷. Besides, those younger crowds feel more like a general social lounge than an actual space for moms with babies.

I am all for this initiative! In the current pregnancy thread, everyone keeps asking where they can go to keep the conversation moving—half the people don't even realize we have these other discussion boards outside of that specific subforum.

The RID forum has always had a chat, and everyone's welcome there. Plus, if you need advice or help with kids, there’s already a massive pile of threads covering pretty much everything. There really isn't any need to clutter things up with separate chats for every single generation or by creating specific parenting groups.

From what I can tell, new moms fit in better in the "Generations" section than they do in the "Old Maid" group.🤷 Plus, the "Old Maids" feels more like a general chat for moms rather than a dedicated space for moms with actual babies.

So, what exactly is missing for you guys?

We used to have a thread called "New Moms Ask Old Moms," but at some point, it just turned into one giant catch-all chat for every possible question. People stopped starting new threads unless a moderator moved their posts to an existing topic.
(Basically, nobody was actually browsing through the threads to find the right place to ask their specific question. Most of the topics were crammed onto one page, so instead of finding answers, people would just dump questions on the new moms. This led to the same questions being asked over and over again for days. No one could get a clear answer, and eventually, even the most dedicated regulars got tired of answering the exact same things—breastfeeding, solids, sleep schedules, fever, clothing sizes... all those topics already have their own dedicated spots!)

Because of that, we won't be creating a thread like that; it goes against the whole purpose of how this forum works.

There's one chat for pregnant women, and it's the same for the parenting section.
I honestly don't see what else needs to be done.😕

When it comes to chatting, you get to pick your audience. If you prefer the pregnancy section, stay there after you give birth (it's not restricted to just pregnant women). You can also hang out in the "off-topic" area or move over to the "Old Maids" section (feel free to suggest a new name for it if you want!). It's not like you don't have options.
