Hey everyone, I’ve run into a bit of a headache here:

I'm trying to get Windows installed on my new SSD, and once that's all set up, I really want to switch over to AHCI mode in the BIOS to make sure the drive is actually running at its full potential... but for some reason, I just can't find the option anywhere in the settings. Is it actually possible for a BIOS to be missing this feature entirely? I did try to troubleshoot by running the official Gigabyte updates, but every single time I attempt to launch them, the installer just crashes immediately... it's incredibly frustrating. I even tried messing around with the registry to force it, but Samsung Magician keeps flagging me, telling me that AHCI mode isn't active yet. My motherboard is a GA-P31-S3G—here is a shot of what my BIOS screen looks like:

You've got a problem right there. According to the manual for that board, Hard drives in RAID/AHCI mode are not supported.

It turns out that hard drives running in either RAID or AHCI mode simply aren't supported... which is a bit of a headache if you were planning on using them.

Thanks so much.

Uh, look, I know I probably won't be much help here, but if I were you, I'd just grab a better motherboard that actually supports AHCI. An SSD isn't really built to run in IDE mode—it's just not how they're designed. Besides, you won't really see the drive "breathing" at its full potential, and it definitely won't be hitting those 100% performance levels you're looking for.

The PC is ten years old at this point, so there's really no sense in dumping money into it right now. It'll carry me through for maybe another six months, and then I'll either pick up a new desktop or just go with a laptop.
