It doesn't always have to be a jerk.
Maybe he didn't even want a kid—it just happened. She didn't want an abortion (which is her right, obviously), so fine—he can pay child support religiously, but he doesn't have to be involved in the actual parenting. If she wants to raise the kid she decided to keep, that's on her.
There are plenty of women out there who play this exact game to land celebrities—honestly, it's almost always just about the money.

The article says he was in a five-year relationship with the child's mother.
I honestly don't get people who turn their backs on their own kids. If things didn't work out with the mother—and I guess that's nobody's fault, really—it doesn't justify abandoning the child. ☕

I agree with everything except for that very first sentence. A child shouldn't have to suffer because of their parents' mistakes. By acting the way he did, he's essentially creating an unwanted situation, and that’s just not right.☕

Maybe he didn't want kids—she just stops taking her birth control and manipulates him into setting up a trust fund.
And maybe he was naive enough to believe her.

It’s possible he just snapped in the heat of the moment, though I suppose walking away from your own kid isn't exactly a simple impulse. Given the legal paperwork involved, it’s probably more likely that he’s just a complete jerk.

In the end, once the little guy grows up, he'll probably just head straight back to his father. It's happened before—take that case with Anđela Marić, for instance. She fought tooth and nail for custody for years, only for the kid to turn thirteen and decide he wanted to live with his dad anyway.
