A few days ago, in the "Pope Francis" thread, a discussion between me and another user got wiped. We were just having a civil back-and-forth about the Pope's statements and views—no insults, no off-topic nonsense, nothing. So, why was it deleted?

You aren't the only one. That "Pope Francis" stuff you wrote was probably on the politics as a subforum (where they mass-delete and shadowban posts constantly) - basically just World News.

Since I can't post elsewhere, I'll drop this here: my own post about self-defense in the European Union got nuked too. I know exactly who pulled the trigger on that—it’s pretty obvious—but I’m calling on the "higher-ups" to actually explain what was supposedly controversial about this:

Self-defense weapons?! The "lunatics" over in Scandinavia have even banned non-lethal tools people could actually use to protect themselves—like pepper spray and Tasers. And they did it right when incidents and attacks on their citizens are actually happening.

What else is there to say?! Forget about them ever allowing actual firearms. Until one of those elites at the top gets caught in the crossfire, they couldn't care less.

Lately, I've made it a habit to "save" decent posts by dumping them into a file while this specific crew is running the forum—they’d probably try to ban that too, but hey, luck is on my side since they can't touch my local files. At least God is looking out for me.

So, seriously, what part of that post was "problematic"? That they banned the only safe ways to defend yourself? It’s a fact, and since they literally wrote it into law, I don't get why we aren't allowed to talk about it. They don't even hide this from their own taxpayers, the very people funding their lifestyles; it would be too hypocritical to play them for fools in public.

Gentlemen, if you don't understand why discussions regarding Islamic terrorism were removed from the thread about the Pope, then I suppose you still have quite a bit to learn about how politics as a subforum actually operates.

In general, such blatant off-topic posts are subject to removal.

I have no idea why, but every time I try to send a message in the chat, this red exclamation point inside a circle just pops up right next to what I'm typing.

But the Pope—who the whole thread is actually about—is talking about Islamist theory. Every single comment from me and my buddy here was just referencing things the Pope actually said.

How is that off-topic, for God's sake?

The thread isn't even titled something like "Christian Mercy" or "Same-Sex Marriage." So, is it also against the rules to comment on the Pope's take on mercy or marriage?

Just scrolling through the "Pope Francis" thread. Most of it is just people obsessing over the Pope's stances on this or that. Honestly, it's weird how the mods haven't nuked like 95% of these posts yet. Don't you think?

Not quite. There is a significant difference between merely critiquing someone's opinion and actually engaging in a debate about the subject matter itself.

Have you even been following this thread? There are tons of comments here explaining why people think the Pope is right or wrong. They haven't been deleted, and honestly, they shouldn't be, because the whole point is his stance.

I remember back when we were talking about the Laudato encyclical—I was part of that discussion myself. Obviously, people were weighing in on things like global warming, but anyone involved was really just answering the core question: is the Pope right or wrong in his encyclical? And naturally, those comments weren't wiped out!

Plus, my buddy and I kept bringing up specific quotes from him or noting when he left something out. For instance, my friend argued the Pope always links economics to terrorism, so I backed him up by citing a statement made to the US Congress. Then he said the Pope ignores the religious side of terrorism, so I countered by pointing to Francis's comments on blasphemy when people invoke God during an attack.

northernsailor8, you missed the mark here. Fix your mistake.

I'm thinking back to that whole debate we had. A buddy and I were going deep on that recent statement where Pope Francis compares Catholic and Islamic radicalism.

Man, that wasn't even off-topic.

Right now, you’re dropping warnings on a thread about nonprofits just because it looks like off-topic (even if I'm technically part of that).

But when it comes to the actual discussion I'm having—which isn't even off-topic—you just wipe it out instantly without so much as a heads-up?

Maybe take a second to check yourself and admit you messed up here? 😁

I feel the same way, though honestly, it’s getting so hard to predict what’s going to get wiped out next that I don't even know what's worth "saving" anymore. Just on this specific thread, one of those longer posts from user luca toni just vanished into thin air right before I could even get back from my ban to reply—it was probably the most normal, on-topic post you could ask for, complete with a link to an article from the Los Angeles Times. I assume the admins can see this, so, well, here we are. And Pringles, you really don't need to tell me that other people's deleted posts aren't my business; that's just your opinion, and given how things are going, I have to say I disagree. They are basically destroying the Politics PDF, and it feels like some people are deleting posts just to hit some sort of quota. 🤷

Why were the threads about the Liberal Party and the coalition in the 2016 Parliamentary Elections PDF deleted?
Everything was done by the book... I don't see how anyone's feelings were hurt by it.

Sorry for hijacking someone else's thread here, but I figured it was better than starting yet another redundant one from scratch

So, basically, my post on the last page of that immigration discussion got nuked earlier today, and honestly, I’d really love to know what the deal was. I'm just trying to figure out where the line is so I don't end up posting something similar tomorrow and getting slapped with a warning or a ban
