So... Iβve got this IBM laptop just sitting in my apartment gathering dust while I wait for a real expert to take a look at it. π
The thing took a little physical hit, and now the hard drive is toastβit won't read anything, and it won't even spin up. You can hear it struggling, but nothing happens. I've tried hooking it up to a few different machines, and a couple of "pros" out here in Canada checked it out too. They all told me the internal damage is pretty bad, and while there might be a chance to save my data, itβs going to be pricey. In Canada, we're talking $1,000 or even more...
Most of these "experts" did nothing more than plug the drive into another laptop and decided it was dead. Look, I get itβthese components are delicateβbut I was hoping theyβd actually dig a little deeper to figure out what went wrong.
Since I wasn't around the US when this happened, the last time I took it for service (to an IBM center), I went to a shop in Small Town, USA, but I honestly can't remember the name or the exact address. Iβll be back in town for a few weeks in about a month.
After living abroad for years, I actually find myself trusting American specialists way more than the ones I dealt with overseas. Does anyone know a good soul who could point me toward a shop that would actually perform a deep analysis? I need someone who will either tell me it's officially a lost cause or, by some miracle, actually rescue my files.
I did a quick Google search for a repair shop and sent them an inquiry. Has anyone here worked with them before? Are they any good?
