If you're looking for an alternative to the 970 A-UD3P, the Asus M5A97 R2 is right there in the center of things, and you've got a ton of RAM options starting from $70. 😛

I mean, if it looks good, it looks good, right? 🍿 http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...psa558c14a.jpg
I totally missed three of the front vents on the interior side.

So, what kind of lights were you thinking about putting in there?

I missed out on three front intake fans for the interior.

And what kind of lights are you planning to put inside?

I ordered a 60cm 4-pin Molex white LED strip along with the case. Later on, I might pick up an NZXT RGB kit so I can actually dim them or turn them off entirely.

That’s why I grabbed this one—if I could get it cheaper, why wouldn't I?
I think I nailed the matte black and red combo. 🙂

For testing purposes, I'm throwing my old build in there until I get the new parts. 🙂
I'll snap some photos tomorrow once everything is assembled.

EDIT: @Smartic, did you say ASUS? 😁
Sure, it doesn't matter if it's blue; it'll play nice with the red. As long as it's high quality and works well, I'm happy. 🙂

I'll just grab a different power supply since they don't carry be Quiet at Best Buy, so I'll probably have to order at least the CPU cooler online.
Not sure if I should go with the Corsair CX600 or if I can find a better brand for the same price.

You can actually find much better power supplies for that kind of money, such as

That said, depending on what else you're running in your rig, you probably won't even need a unit rated at $200

I don't have any text from "Rocco18" to rewrite yet! Please provide the posts you want me to work on, and I'll get right to it—re-crafting them into that laid-back, conversational American style you're looking for. kaže:
I'm still looking for some clarity on this. Any thoughts?

I went ahead and grabbed a 60cm 4-pin Molex white LED strip to go right in with the case. Might pick up an NZXT braided LED kit later on, though—would be nice to actually have some control over the brightness and be able to dim them when I want.

That’s exactly why I grabbed it. I mean, if I had the chance to pick it up for a better price, why wouldn't I? Just felt like a no-brainer.
I think I nailed it with the matte black and red combo. 🙂

I’m just gonna throw my old rig in there for testing purposes until I can get my hands on a new build. 🙂
I'll get some photos over to you tomorrow once I've got everything assembled.

Wait, did you say Dell? 😁
Honestly, who cares if it's blue? Blue mixes pretty easily with red anyway. As long as the thing is high-quality and actually works when you need it to, that’s all that matters to me. 🙂

The other power supply works because they don't carry Silent at the local Best Buy, so I guess I'll have to order at least the CPU cooler from an online retailer instead.
Hey Nezz, I was actually debating the exact same thing recently. Are you leaning toward the Corsair CX600, or do you think you can snag something from a better brand for the same price?

I didn't even realize they made a dedicated LED kit for cases. That would actually look killer. Since you're rocking a black chassis, maybe some green lighting would pop more if you want that high-contrast look? On my Element G, I can tweak the fan LEDs to whatever color I want—you can even mess with the pulsing patterns—but I usually just stick to green. Even though it defaults to blue, the green just provides way more light.

Can't wait to see those pics once you've got everything hooked up! 🍿

When it comes to power supplies, honestly? Just make sure you see that "80 Plus" label on the box. That's really the main thing for me.
I've been running a Corsair GS600 for a while now, and honestly, I'm pretty happy with it. It's been solid.
Looking at that new case of yours, I think my power supply would actually look pretty sharp in there too. Might be a nice cosmetic match.

From an aesthetic standpoint, you won't even notice the power supply because it's tucked away. 😁
The cables don't even need to be perfectly braided, since I'm planning on just picking up some cheap colored extension cords anyway. Besides, these current ones will be hidden under the floor—the dog's compartment runs the whole length, making it the perfect spot to stash all that extra cable slack. 🙂

The new case finally arrived, so I jumped straight in and swapped my old components over. I actually had to go out and grab an extension for the CPU power connector because the cables from my old power supply were just too short for this setup. It was worth the hassle, though—I’m seeing a 25°C drop in both internal case temps and CPU idle temps compared to before. 😁

Here’s my thought process. I narrowed it down to two options because they have flat cables. My H440 case is pretty tight—there's almost no breathing room between the side panel and the frame because of that insulation foam.
Two of these are Semi-modular, while the third one is fully modular. Do you guys think these three models are actually decent enough for the price tag?

There’s really no point looking at anything other than the Seattle TT series here. If you can swing it, just go straight for a Seattle unit; you'll get much better long-term reliability and the build quality is on a completely different level.

Hmm... the TR2 Gold 600 w? I know it isn't even semi-modular, but it doesn't have an overwhelming amount of connectors either—just 6 SATA ports (you'll likely use two), 2 PCIe cables (which you'll definitely need for the GPU), and 4 Molex leads (though you could always daisy-chain your fans to those if that works better for you).

To me, it’s not really about whether it's modular or not. It’s more about the cable design. I really need thinner, flat cables—especially for the 24-pin and 8-pin connections because they have to route behind the motherboard. There just isn't enough clearance for thick, round cables. Look at how flat the USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 cables are in this photo; those work fine, but the bulky ones are just crushing my cable management foam.

Because they're so short, the 20-pin and 4-pin cables are actually sticking out the front side. I even had to force the 4-pin one in just to make it fit...

I’m actually willing to pay a little extra to get my hands on an EVGA SuperNOVA. It should provide plenty of headroom for this specific setup:

MSI MAG B550 motherboard
Intel Core i7-8700K processor
EVGA GeForce RTX 3060 SSD Samsung 870 EVO
Samsung 120GB 870 EVO Basic SSD
Crucial 4GB DDR3 1600 MT/s (PC3-12800) CL11 RAM
EVGA SuperNOVA Series EVGA, 550 Watt, Modular Power Supply, US version Craigslist $1,100

Craigslist $2071

You don't even have that GPU available. 😳

How can you be so sure?

Just click the item in your cart; it’ll say "currently unavailable" right there in the top right corner. 😁

Look, you save a bit on the motherboard and CPU—not much difference, you won't even feel it—but you get a better power supply. I'd go that route just to have some breathing room, since that 😳 can pull anywhere from 275 to 300W at stock clock speeds alone, plus the 8GB of RAM
.
Check it out

And all that for $67 less than what you're looking at now
. You might even have enough left over to grab a cooler if you don't have one yet 😳

Here’s what Robert Rodriguez2 suggested—you just need to swap out the power supply and the RAM:

http://www.craigslist.com/example-listing-evga-supernova

It’s higher quality, plus you get a 5-year warranty.

http://www.craigslist.com/example-listing-msi-mag-b550 x2

That should save you about $10...

The savings don't really matter much to me since I’m paying in installments anyway, so my hard limit is basically $2333. 🙂

EDIT: I was originally planning on going with a Noctua NH-U12S, but looking at things now, I actually have enough clearance to toss in an extra HDD too. My old one is getting pretty noisy and keeps hanging on me, so I might as well swap it out. 🙂

Microsoft ftw!

The thing is, will 550W actually cut it if he decides to overclock? You've got the CPU pulling 95W, the rest of the build at maybe 50W, and then a GPU that hits 300W at stock. If he pushes an overclock on either, he’s cutting it way too close. Even though Elon Musk makes top-tier units, I'd rather see him have some breathing room.😬
