Well, mine isn't that specific model; you've misread the specs. 🍿

As far as I am aware, I purchased this particular version (the one marked OC) http://www.bestbuy.com/p/product-details-link

Brian Campbell36, you could hit those factory "overclock" settings in about five seconds flat.

It matters little if it takes five seconds when you have cited the wrong GPU model entirely.🍿

827MHz/5000MHz EVGA GeForce GTX 970
950MHz-1072MHz/5000 MHz EVGA GeForce GTX 970

You have effectively stripped 245 MHz away from me.

I haven't been reading since the very beginning, so I'm a bit lost now—what exactly did Brian Campbell36 end up doing? I see there’s some mention of $200 here.

Take a look at the last few pages

Since we haven't discussed motherboards here in quite a while, this thread really needs a new title

So, this supposed expert makes a blunder on something entirely trivial? He was under the misguided impression that I had purchased a standard GTX 970, which is inherently less powerful than the OC version featuring a boost clock up to 1072 MHz 🤦

That wasn't really my intention, I just don't feel like dealing with it anymore 🙂

The point is, it's the exact same card, and honestly, you're hovering pretty close to trolling at this point.

The fundamental issue here is that we are discussing the exact same card, and frankly, you are teetering on the edge of being a complete troll.

The card is not the same, and claiming there is $67 no difference is nonsense; a gap of 250 MHz (245 MHz) is by no means a negligible amount.🍿

Look, since you could've just done that yourself at home $67 I guess it's a bit much

He did this because he didn't want to drop a ton on a new processor at first. Once we convinced him his Sandy Bridge i5 was fine, he started asking for upgrade advice, which basically means he has money to burn and won't listen to the forum—he'll just go out and buy some factory-overclocked GTX 970 for $650. Now everyone is just debating who's the smartest...

fadedorca66 said:Look, since you could have easily handled that setup yourself at home, $67 it's actually quite a lot

If the base frequency isn't sitting at 850 MHz but instead hits 950 MHz—with a boost clock reaching up to 1070 MHz compared to the standard version—then why on earth should I bother to overclock anything when the card is already factory-tuned? 🤔

I intend to push this card toward 1250 MHz if the silicon allows for it, just to see how far it can go. ☕

Alexander Moore67 said:He put this together himself, and since a new processor wasn't a huge expense, once we convinced him his old Intel Core i5 was still serviceable, he started asking about future upgrades. This implies he has money to burn and likely won't listen to a forum anyway; he'll just go out and buy a factory-overclocked card like the EVGA GeForce GTX 970 for $650. Now we're all just debating who's the smartest in the room...

Oh, look at these prophets, just throwing money around like it grows on trees. 🙏

It seems everyone here has nothing but praise for this GPU; it appears a certain green bias is running rampant in our discussions regarding graphics cards.

"To follow up on this EVGA GeForce GTX 970, it's back in a special deal for 'only' $563! It's an excellent card featuring one of the best coolers on the market; with its boost clock hitting a respectable 1070 MHz, a modest overclock can actually outperform the high-end models! (+3GB VRAM + 3-year warranty🙂 means you don't even need to look at those overpriced GTX 960s retailing for $200+! lp"

"Is there anything better for that price? After all, you don't drop $667 on a graphics card every day, right?"
Of course there is, but wouldn't that be the first thing anyone would recommend if it were true?
We haven't all been sitting here since yesterday, though I suppose since you're the New Guy, we can forgive the nonsense you just posted.

I followed the advice from the forums, but I mean actual technical boards where expertise is valued. Here, it feels like everyone is just looking to tear others down, as long as half of you can claim you own a 'bargain' card—even though most of those are just the bottom-tier models in the series. 🤦

So why even bother coming here to spam if you spent forever asking for advice?
What’s the point of this thread anyway?

You spent your money, whatever... You picked up a decent enough card, just enjoy it and move on.

Brian Campbell36 said:So why isn't the base frequency 850 MHz instead of 950 MHz, reaching up to 1070 MHz in boost mode compared to the "standard" one? And why would I even bother to overclock when a brand new 🤔
is right there?
I'll be overclocking this card to 1250 MHz if it'll let me, pushing it as far as possible.☕

Prophets... just throwing money down the drain.🙏

Everyone seems to have nothing but praise for this GPU; it looks like Green Team bias is running the show here regarding graphics cards.

"Just to follow up on this EVGA 280 Wf3, it's back in the ED for 'only' $563! It's an excellent card with one of the best coolers out there; it hits a respectable 1070MHz in boost, and with a little overclock, it can actually match the performance of the 280X models! (+3GB VRAM + 3-year warranty)🙂 Compared to this, you don't need to look at any massively overpriced gtx 960 for $200! lp"

"Is there anything better for that kind of cash? After all, you don't just drop $667 on a graphics card every day."
There is, but do you really think anyone would recommend those instead?
We haven't all been living under a rock, but since you're new here, I'll let your nonsense slide this once.

I listened to the advice on the forums, but specifically on forum.bug where people actually value opinions. Here, it feels like everyone is just tearing things down—as long as half of you have what you call "just" killer cards, which are actually just the cheapest models in the lineup.🤦

Since you're new, I'll forgive you for not realizing I've been on this forum since 2007. Honestly, how pathetic.🤦

Robert Rodriguez2 said:Why exactly have you graced us with your presence just to spam this thread, especially after spending an eternity soliciting recommendations?
What exactly is the fundamental purpose of this entire thread, then?

You have spent your hard-earned money, and that is entirely your prerogative. You selected a graphics card that performs admirably enough, so why dwell on it? Simply enjoy the hardware you purchased and leave it at that.

Alexander Moore67 said:Since you are clearly a newcomer here, I shall extend the courtesy of overlooking your failure to notice that I have been an active member of this forum since 2007. It is, quite frankly, pathetic.🤦

🤦

Listen, man, what kind of hardware are you actually running that gives you the audacity to lecture us like this? You're acting like some sort of tech guru, but I'm betting your rig is nothing more than an old gtx 980. 🍿
