unspecified is love. 'What's that, a dadaist nun?'

I still remember this silly movie I've seen a hundred times—it's just so incredibly sweet.🤦

I caught Holly Hunter recently in that series >... she was just brilliant playing that seasoned feminist guru type. I’ve actually crossed paths with women exactly like her in real life, so it felt incredibly authentic—I bet Jane Campion knew exactly what she was doing there too.

William Hurt was such an absolute powerhouse as a leading man back in the '80s... I seem to remember his role in The Accidental Tourist being a big one, though honestly, looking back, I can't recall much about the plot itself, just this lingering sense of the atmosphere and the overall feeling that it was just a genuinely great movie. On the flip side, I think I could still replay Kiss of the Spider Woman in my head right now if I wanted to, even after nearly thirty years... some cinematic images just sort of etch themselves deep into your brain, I guess.

Oh yeah, she was great in that role. 👍

Happy birthday to Gary Oldman, Matthew Broderick, Timothy Dalton, and Rhys Darby.🎉

Gary Oldman is my favorite actor on this list. He can be over the top, but that’s why you love him. First noticed him in unspecified. A unique role right out of the gate. Then Leon, then he was great in True Romance—too bad it was such a small part.🤣 My favorite is his role in Dracula. He nailed it. Different from Bela Lugosi, Lee, or Langele. Actually, he had that Lugosi elegance, just acted it better.

The Fifth Element, obviously. From the newer stuff, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy was excellent. He still hasn't won an Oscar, even though Leo has. It isn't some massive marketing blitz like they did for Leo. No internet mobs crying hysterically over him like they do for Leo and all that...

Matthew Broderick is a different story. An 80s teen idol. We were just talking about Ferris Bueller's Day Off recently. One of the better teen movies. He also held his own in Glory, which gave him a heavy dramatic role and he didn't disappoint. Then there's Election. For those of us who grew up in the 80s, WarGames was a major influence. Ladyhawke is another gem from that era, though Hauer steals the show there.

I never really cared for Timothy Dalton, but his roles were always interesting. Most know him as James Bond, but he had good turns in the underrated Romerov horror The Dark Half and in Flash Gordon😁 where he plays a sort of wannabe Robin Hood. He's in that new horror series Penny Dreadful, but he didn't do much for me there. Eva Green did.😍

Gary Oldman 🙏

I have to say, I’ve been feeling like Broderick is just a bit... off. There's something about him that feels slightly out of sync with everything else.

Timothy Dalton is certainly an interesting actor, though I’ve always felt he occupies a bit of a niche, almost marginal space in Hollywood.

I honestly have no idea what's happening this Thursday. Not a clue, really—nothing at all. 😁

Gary Oldman—honestly, there's no point in even trying to find the right words, he’s just a genius... My absolute favorites have to be TTSS, Your Ears, playing Sirius Black in HP, JFK, and Immortal Beloved. In The Contender, you wouldn't even recognize him, it's just phenomenal. I guess Dracula was the one that didn't quite hit the mark for me, though...

It’s kind of funny to think about how both William Hurt and Timothy Dalton ended up playing Rochester in Jane Eyre, I wonder who was responsible for that casting choice back then... 🤦 Personally, I think Toby Stephens eats them both for breakfast.

For me, Broderick is such a definitive icon of his generation—you've got WarGames, Ferris, Ladyhawke, and that really solid performance in Glory, but after that, nothing else really caught my eye...

Man, Broderick is absolutely killing it in Glory. I actually watched that one right after his run of teen flicks and The Cable Guy—which is such an underrated gem, even if he almost steals the whole show—plus those total disasters like Godzilla and Inspector Gadget. It really caught me off guard how much he carries that movie; he’s basically the heart and soul of the whole thing, even with that massive supporting cast and Denzel Washington's Oscar win pulling focus. Then I caught Election and realized there’s way more to this guy than just being some random dude, especially after seeing him in You Can Count on Me.

Happy birthday to Karl Malden, Reese Witherspoon, William Shatner, and Bruno Ganz🎉

Karl Malden. Hard to say much other than he was one of those premier character actors with an incredible run in 'A Streetcar Named Desire', 'On the Waterfront', 'Patton', 'Birdman of Alcatraz', and plenty more. Always a powerhouse performance.

Reese Witherspoon started out as one of those stereotypical blondes before actually turning into a decent actress. She earned an Oscar for 'Walk the Line'—solid work. She was also quite convincing in 'Election'. I haven't seen her comedies and don't plan to. Her last good role for me was in 'Wild', though the movie itself wasn't much.

William Shatner is the biggest icon on this list. He’s never been known so much for his acting as he is for 'Star Trek' and playing Captain James T. Kirk. His best work was in 'Boston Legal'. I also remember him from an episode of 'Twilight Zone'.

For me, Bruno Ganz is the best German actor after Kinski. If we're being pedantic, Kinski was Polish, but he gave everything to German cinema. Good old Bruno is widely known for playing Hitler in 'Downfall'—truly a top-tier performance that somehow turned into a parody because of that one scene 😁

His most moving role is in Wenders' 'Sky over Berlin', a film I suspect everyone here has seen. He also had a supporting role in Herzog's 'Nosferatu'. Then there's 'The American Friend', another Wenders film where he completely outshone Dennis Hopper. I recall another role of his in some musical, but the title escapes me.

Karl Malden really holds his own, even in a series like "San Francisco Street." On the flip side, you have William Shatner taking on this absolutely bizarre role in the "Ray Bradbury Theater," where he starts hallucinating things about kids at a playground, and he just ends up sitting there on a swing, rocking back and forth in this total state of madness...

Bruno Ganz recently played this really interesting Mexican mobster in that hilarious Kraftidioten movie--it was such a blast! 😁

It looks like we have two versions of Karl Malden here... one American and one German.
Honestly, William Shatner is the absolute king of overacting. I mean, what else is there to say? 😁
I’ve always had a bit of a soft spot for Reese Witherspoon... she seems like the kind of girl you'd want around the house just to keep things running smoothly—doing a bit of cleaning, laundry, or cooking. We could spend the whole afternoon playing board games, cards, chess, hide-and-seek, or even some scavenger hunts.

Happy birthday to Joan Crawford and Kerry Russell🎉
imageimage

So what's there to say? 😁

Joan Crawford is a classic Hollywood icon, yet she’s one of those few legends I just couldn't get into. She isn't bad by any means—her work in 'Mildred Pierce', 'What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?' (even if Bette stole the show there ☕), and 'Sudden Fear'—a forgotten but excellent noir—proves that. I don't know; her screen presence never clicked for me. I'm more of a Bette fan. She's the true queen of classic Hollywood.

Kerry Russell as Felicity ☕ I watched the first season of 'The Americans' and it was an incredibly unreal bore.

Happy birthday to Steve McQueen, Jessica Chastain, and Lara Flynn Boyle.🎉
imageimage image

Steve McQueen, The King of Cool, was a magnetic actor who died far too young. Back then, Paul Newman and McQueen were always paired as the ultimate icons of cool. He delivered a string of powerhouse performances in 'The Great Escape', 'The Getaway', 'Papillon', 'Bullitt', 'The Magnificent Seven', and his best work in 'The Sand Pebbles'. Just as he left us too soon, so did the beautiful Natalie Wood. Their film 'Love with the Proper Stranger' is a lost romantic gem featuring incredible chemistry between two legends. He also has plenty of other classics, like 'Nevada Smith' and 'Hombre', where he starred alongside Newman...

Jessica Chastain bores me.

Lara Flynn Boyle isn't boring.😁 She'll always be Donna from Twin Peaks.

I honestly can't recall seeing any movies by Steve McQueen lately.
As for Jessica Alba, I'm not even sure if I've actually watched one of her films.
Now, Lara Croft... she was always incredibly sexy to me. Just captivating. But looking at her today, she looks like a monster straight out of a horror flick. I just don't get it—why do these women feel the need to undergo so many surgeries and completely ruin their natural looks?
Just look at Jennifer Beals in Flashdance back in '83. Fast forward 34 years and she is still absolutely stunning. Then you compare that to Lara at only 46, which is just 27 years after Twin Peaks. It makes no sense. There is nothing more tragic than watching a woman struggle with her own insecurities and then succumb to that supposed "pressure" to meet Hollywood's beauty standards.

That’s just Hollywood for you. Especially now, when high-tech tools are everywhere, yet we're stuck with reality TV and shows obsessed with plastic surgery. So many young girls watch this stuff and start idolizing those people.

Janine Turner (Maggie Gyllenhaal from Twin Peaks) is just another case of a beautiful woman ruining her look.

imageimage

When I think about what Kim Basinger looked like back in the 90s... now she's just all plastic.

The only reason Sherilyn Fenn still gives me hope 😁 is because even she seems to be heading down the wrong path.

"Maggie" used to look absolutely stunning... I swear, in this photo, she looks like she’s already in her 70s... though I suppose it could just be down to genetics. Some people just age differently than others, you know?
