ambergull said:There's also that Neverland (2011) series on Syfy—it's got two parts acting as a prequel.
They made a whole channel out of it, but the story is actually decent and hits a level of realism that works...

Neverland isn't really what I'm looking for, even if it's passable... and honestly, I'm betting this new announcement is just going to be total garbage.

That trailer looks killer! You can tell just by how much the characters pop against the background and those crazy colors that this was totally made for 3D.

"The one pirate everyone actually fears—Blackbeard!" Are they seriously trying this hard to rip off a pirate from the Caribbean? 🤔

And these ships—they look like oversized toys.

Hm. The movie kicks off strong. I actually dug the WWII scenes where Spitfires are strafing a pirate ship flying the Jolly Roger over the NYC skyline at night. Then you've got kids working in mines, greeting Blackbeard by blasting nirvana Smells like Teen Spirit, or Peter Pan walking a plank into an abyss to the beat of the Ramones blitzkrieg Bop... it’s a phenomenal start. But then? It just falls off a cliff into total mediocrity and stays there. Even that strangely wooden performance by Mara Rooney couldn't save it.

Hello, hello, hello, how low 🎉

Instead of a charming family adventure packed with wonder and imagination, we ended up with "Pan," which feels like a chaotic collision between "Pirates of the Caribbean," "Indiana Jones," "Journey to the Center of the Earth," and "Mad Max." It’s pretty obvious to anyone watching the train wreck exactly what happens when you try to mash that many different concepts into a single film. "Pan" was supposed to breathe new life into the classic tale of Peter Pan, the boy who refuses to grow up, but the only thing it actually managed to achieve was creating a massive headache.

I mostly watched this for the kids at home. It feels like the entire budget was dumped into flying ships and flashy special effects. The dialogue between the children is honestly quite cringey and feels scripted just to pass a test; you can really sense the director's lack of effort in giving the characters any actual depth. This could have been such a charming, witty story, but instead, we ended up with a routine, shallow production that wasted a huge budget and did a disservice to the original book.

It was an okay movie, I guess, but I definitely expected more from it. The hook was much stronger than the actual payoff.
