Hey there.

So, I went in for an ultrasound last week to check out this swelling I’ve been dealing with. It’s been there for several years now, ever since I took a bit of a tumble. For the most part, it hasn't changed size at all over the years.
The doctor who saw me mentioned it isn't a tumor, but rather just an organized hematoma.

I haven't had a chance to run this by my own primary care physician yet because they're away on vacation, so I was wondering if anyone knows whether a hematoma like this actually needs any kind of treatment or removal?

I haven't been able to see my primary care physician yet because they're on vacation, so I'm wondering if this hematoma actually needs treatment or if it should be surgically removed?

A surgeon is going to be your best bet for an answer on that.

Thanks for that.
So, should I be asking my primary care doctor for a referral, or is it actually their job to set that up for me?

They’ll likely bring it up themselves, but you can always just ask for a referral to see a surgeon.
