If this hasn't moved yet, I’d be extremely wary—it smells like a scam.

Price is great, but I wouldn't call it suspicious. An i5 will be worth about this much soon enough anyway😁 (roughly $1200 new...)

Can anyone give me some solid recommendations for these processors? Specifically, I'm looking at the rest of the build too. Is there actually a massive difference between the 6600K and the non-K 6600? I’m planning on buying almost everything brand new, but for now, I'll focus on the CPU, motherboard, power supply, cooler, and RAM—then, once I've saved up a bit more, I'll pick up an SSD, a graphics card, and some extra RAM.

My current rig is barely cutting it and I urgently need an upgrade; I've got $3,000 to work with. Right now, my workload isn't too heavy, but I'll be moving into 3D modeling and design software very soon, so I want to build a configuration that can actually handle that.

I have one 4GB DDR4 stick sitting around that isn't being used right now—if I can't find a way to reuse it, maybe I'll just sell it and see if I can trade it for something else.

What is suspicious is that it has 360 views and still hasn't sold. In my experience, legitimate deals like that vanish instantly.

The 6600K has an unlocked multiplier, whereas the 6600 does not—though you can actually overclock the non-K version on many Z170 motherboards with specific BIOS tweaks. Honestly, buying them new isn't a smart move. If you're planning on overclocking a non-K chip, there's really no point in paying the premium over a basic i5 6400.

Current estimates for three components:

Intel Core i5-7400 - approx $500
ASUS Prime B250M-A - approx $650-$233
8GB DDR4 - approx $150

For used parts, just see what's available locally.

EDIT

If you already have that 4GB DDR4 stick, just buy a matching one and get a motherboard with four slots (like the one mentioned above).

Thanks for all the advice, everyone—I’ve weighed every suggestion and focused on hunting down the best deals I could find.

I ended up pulling the trigger on an Intel Core i5-6500, an MSI Z170-A PRO motherboard, and a FSP Hyper 500W power supply. I'm still waiting on a 240GB SSD and an 8GB RAM stick (to go along with the 4GB I already have sitting here), so once those arrive, I'll be putting the whole rig together in a few days.

The graphics card is going to have to wait a bit—once my budget allows, I'm aiming for an NVIDIA GTX 1050. This entire setup cost me $1100, so fingers crossed everything runs smooth as silk.

You bought a board you don't need. It's built for overclocking, but your CPU can't even overclock. You wasted money there that should've gone toward the GPU.

He’s got that Sky-OC tool for BCLK overclocking; all he really needed to do was grab the i5-6400 and save some cash.
