Hey everyone!! I’m starting a brand new thread because I am officially desperate for some help here! I decided to install CrystalDiskInfo to run a quick health check on my SSD along with two other hard drives I have lying around... and man, things just went south fast. My whole system has been acting possessed—constant freezing, massive slowdowns, and my mouse cursor keeps stuttering like crazy. Even the audio gets all glitchy and stutters whenever I try to play anything from the HDD or even just stream stuff online. Well, I got a massive shock when I opened CrystalDiskInfo and saw my SSD health sitting at a big fat zero... everything is flashing red, and it explicitly says: "failure predicted." This does not look good at all—like, at all. Is this the universe telling me my SSD is basically a paperweight now? It just happened to hit that three-year mark where the warranty expires, so obviously sending it back for service is out of the question... Given how much my PC is choking, it seems obvious this is the culprit—so what’s the move here? Should I waste my time trying a clean install of macOS, or should I just bite the bullet and buy a new SSD right now???

Why don't you try downloading CrystalDiskInfo to check the SSD's health? Actually, an even better idea might be to grab the manufacturer's specific toolbox from their website—it’s usually more precise. If that also shows zero percent remaining, then yeah, you really put that drive through the wringer. I've had my SSD for over three years now, and I just checked mine—it's still sitting at 96%. Honestly, I have no idea what you were doing with yours 😁 Did you happen to run a defrag on it by mistake? Also, is your SATA controller enabled in the BIOS? And just out of curiosity, how many gigabytes of data were you writing to it every single day? Unfortunately, reinstalling macOS isn't going to fix this one... if the hardware is physically worn out, you're looking at buying a new drive.

Larry Ortiz5 — how many GBs are you actually burning through in a day??
And while we're on the subject... when it comes to torrenting, wouldn't it be smarter to just set everything to dump straight onto an HDD??

Honestly, practically nothing. I keep my SSD strictly for the OS and programs—but games, torrents, general downloads, all that stuff goes straight to my HDD.

I already downloaded CrystalDiskInfo, and it says the health is at 86%—so who am I supposed to believe now?

Like they mentioned, you might want to grab the specific SSD utility tool from your manufacturer's website and check things there instead.

Well, I went ahead and grabbed the utility tool—and wouldn't you know it? It claims everything is perfectly fine: :good:—but my computer sure isn't acting "fine"... the mouse keeps stuttering all over the place, and the audio is glitching out just like I described earlier!

Is it just an issue with the audio? When was the last time you did a fresh install of macOS?

A few months back—well, actually, I’ve been dealing with a whole mess of malware lately... honestly, more than one strain—and I even have the full version of Norton with a legitimate key, yet here we are...

Well, it's finally sorted out! I went ahead and wiped the drive completely, did a clean install of Windows 10 Enterprise, and everything is running like a dream now—though how long that actually lasts remains to be seen, I suppose! Thanks to everyone for all the input and the helpful advice!
