I guess Ferrari might actually have a shot here—alongside Mercedes-Benz, obviously.

😱
Sebastian Vettel:
ICE - 4 units
Turbo - 4 units
MGU-K - 3 units
MGU-H - 3 units
ES (batteries) - 2 units
CE (electronics) - 5 units

We aren't even halfway through the season yet, and he's already starting from the pit lane because of penalties. 🙂

It doesn't necessarily have to be that way... these parts are used, but they haven't all failed, and sometimes teams just take a massive risk with them, though I suppose some will eventually be forced to pick up new components.

I actually noticed that too... the soft tires:

and the super softs:

There were a few other small changes in there, but the main thing is seeing how Sebastian Vettel managed to push himself into third place.

It's pretty clear that engine power is playing a huge role here, with Mercedes-Benz being the strongest, followed by Ferrari, then Red Bull Racing somewhere in there, and then the rest of the Mercedes-Benz teams.

Same old story every single race—same exact script.

I assume it’s obvious to you that every single post in this PDF is just whatever random stuff the forum users felt like typing out.

You had the same choice as anyone else—you could’ve actually said something useful, or just kept being a total whiner.

You really went with the whining route—classic.

Honestly? I’d much rather deal with some blatant trolling than listen to someone constantly whining.

Trolling is actually pretty hilarious—keeps me entertained. All this constant whining is just exhausting. It’s like listening to some old lady drone on about her doctor visits, her back pain, and all that medical nonsense.

Could there be some kind of mistake here?
Is the mastermind behind this whole American scam actually him?
It seems almost impossible...🙂

I think at Renault, it’s almost a certainty...
The real headache is that they rushed everything in unprepared. Most of these changes were meant to swap in "reliable" parts, but that's assuming the power unit is actually decent now. The rest of the car is just a tired, beat-up old series, and the big question is whether they can even fit new components onto those old parts or pull off the mods they planned.

So, honestly, it's unlikely their current setup will hold up given all the issues.

It sucks that they tested everything on the Red Bull Racing car. On one hand, it's great because they get the upgrades first, but on the other, it's a disaster because they'll burn through their five allowed components before anyone else even gets started.

graniteharbor502 said:Ferrari doesn't look bad. Neither does Vettel. The real question is whether they can hold onto that pace during qualifying.

Vettel's time could be pretty misleading...
He set it on the SS right at the end when the track was at its absolute best, so heaven only knows what that time would’ve looked like compared to everyone else earlier on...
On the flip side, he had a killer time on the Soft before that (only about 0.200 behind Ricciardo on the SS), even with tires that were twenty laps old.

Ferrari looks great, but Kimi's time was also set much later, so again, you have to wonder how much of that is pure speed versus just a better track surface...
What really bugs me, though, is that cornering. Something about the car's handling just feels off...

But you can't ignore the insane pace from Williams. It honestly looks like they might actually give Mercedes a run for their money in the race.😲
Massa was flying in the race simulations—he was even faster than Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg.😲
The big unknown is how Williams performs in qualifying because they don't seem nearly as fast on the SS, but they are blistering on the Soft... all things considered, I wouldn't be shocked if Massa grabbed a podium.🙂

One thing that's actually pretty interesting is that both Mercedes cars seemed to be hiding their true pace during FP2.😉
There is absolutely no theory that Mercedes is fully on par with Red Bull Racing and Ferrari in terms of top speed during FP2...
Plus, it makes zero sense that both Mercedes cars had more speed in FP1 than they did in FP2.😉

I can't help but wonder what Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen's actual lap times would have looked like if they had just managed things a bit better earlier on.

Looking at the pace, from what I could gather, everyone seemed faster during FP1, so it’s pretty obvious they cranked up the downforce for FP2, which explains why everyone was about 5-6.2 milesmph slower while still pulling faster lap times. It might have been due to some braking issues too, since it felt like almost everyone was overshooting at least one chicane yesterday.

Kimi's spin was clearly a result of pushing way too hard; it looks like he was right on the absolute edge of control there. Honestly, I don't quite get why they're struggling so much with traction in that Ferrari, because nobody else seems to be having nearly as much trouble with wheelspin, and I highly doubt that's what they're looking for in a driver. It feels like no one has figured out how to tune that engine to provide a bit of "artificial" traction control to help smooth out those exits from the corners.

And it seems we are once again facing those familiar setbacks with Kimi's car during the first practice session 🙂

stormybadger8 said:Vettel’s lap times can be pretty deceptive...
That was clocked on the SS right at the tail end when the track was at its absolute peak—so heaven help us all if they had tried that during any of the other sessions...
On did, however, clock an impressive time on the Softs just before that—trailing Ricciardo by a mere 0.200 on the SS—and that was even with the tires having about twenty laps on them already.

Ferrari is looking incredibly sharp right now—but we have to take that caveat into account. Kimi's lap time is essentially comparable to Vettel's, which was largely achieved later in the weekend once the track conditions improved. So, the real question remains: are we actually seeing a genuine surge in raw pace, or are we just witnessing the inevitable result of a faster, grippier track?
That turn is seriously bizarre—it’s like there’s some underlying issue with the car's balance that just isn't clicking.

It’s hard to ignore what we aren't seeing on paper—that Williams car looks absolutely blistering lately. Honestly, if they keep this up, I wouldn't be surprised if they actually find themselves rubbing elbows with the Mercedes boys during the race.😲
Massa was absolutely blistering during the race simulation—honestly, he was flying. Faster than Lewis Hamilton. i Nico Rosberg😲
The big question mark right now is how Williams is going to handle qualifying—it looks like they’re struggling to find any real pace on the SS, yet they look absolutely blistering on the Soft. Honestly, if they managed to pull off a podium for Massa, it would be a massive shock to the system.🙂

Actually, what I find truly fascinating—and I might be wrong here—is the sense that both Mercedes cars were playing it incredibly safe during FP2, almost as if they were intentionally hiding their true pace from the rest of the field.😉
There's absolutely no theory to suggest that... Mercedes looks like they’ve finally closed the gap—they're sitting right there alongside Red Bull Racing and Ferrari in FP2. Regarding top speed...
And besides that—it makes even less sense if both of them are driving Mercedes. He actually looked a lot quicker during FP1. Not even close during FP2. 😉

I haven't been following closely... what tires were Kimi and Alonso running during those fastest laps, and what was Vettel's exact time on the hard compound?

BBC's Andrew Benson: "Ferrari appear to be the second fastest team—they brought a whole package of upgrades to the Canadian Grand Prix, including aero tweaks like a new floor and better engine performance. The Two Drivers shared The development work. Finn's Car for a comparison in The second session , When Alonso ran an older design."

FP1 - Maestro is 1.340 seconds faster than the Finn
FP2 - The Finn is 0.053 seconds faster than the Maestro.

Difference? About 2500% in favor of the Grande Maestro.

Eagerly awaiting qualifying.

Regarding pure speed, from what I saw, everyone was faster in FP1. It’s obvious they cranked up the downforce for FP2, since everyone was about 5-6.2 miles mph slower on top end, yet the lap times were actually better. Might be braking issues—yesterday it felt like everyone missed at least one chicane.

Kimi spinning is clearly a result of pushing hard; looks like he was right on the edge (at least then). I have no clue why that Ferrari struggles so much with wheelspin. Nobody else deals with this level of traction issues, and I highly doubt teams are looking for drivers who deal with that. Seems like nobody can figure out how to tune that engine to have some kind of "fake" TC to dial back the sliding coming out of the corners.

Not really though...
FP1 vs FP2
Those who were faster in FP2
Alonso 324.6 vs 326.2
Kimi 320.9 vs 325.0
Vettel 323.8 vs 327.6
Massa 330.9 vs 333.8
Bottas 328.2 vs 331.7

Those who were slower in FP2
Ricciardo 324.7 vs 317.9
Lewis Hamilton 329.2 vs 326.5
Nico Rosberg 333.1 vs 327.1

Kimi's spin happened on the out-lap, which is the weird part...
You never push like that on an out-lap, let alone being right on the limit. 😉

Jacob White49 said:I haven't been following... what tires were Kimi and Alonso on during their fastest laps, and what was Vettel's exact time on the hard tires?

A couple of guys on the SS.
Keep in mind, during that long stint later on—you know, the race simulation—Kimi was basically a full second faster than Alonso. And that's while Kimi was running on Softs, whereas Alonso was already on those faster SS tires...

It’s looking more and more like the Soft tires are the way to go for the race. Honestly, I wouldn't be shocked if someone actually tries starting on Softs instead of the SS.
Things could get pretty weird out there, and we might see some massive surprises.😁
I wouldn't be shocked if Mercedes actually tried to grab pole in Q3 on the Softs. Honestly, looking at their pace, it might not even be impossible.
Maybe those guys who have zero hope of making it into Q3 should just try running Q2 on the Softs. Might as well give it a shot.

If I remember the timing right, Vettel was about 0.200 slower than Ricciardo during that lap. We were looking at something around 1:17.800/900, and that was right at the end of a long stint with tires that had roughly twenty laps on them.
I can't quite remember the exact numbers, but I know I checked the lap times on ESPN. Seeing how old those tires were, that pace actually caught me off guard. It was surprisingly good.

Honestly, God knows—I just can't bring myself to watch Kimi driving that red bucket. If anyone's going to spend their career grinding away in that car, let it be Alonso.
