I would be most grateful if someone could provide some clarification regarding this matter.
While composing this message, I have been dutifully monitoring the registration counts in real-time.
I had previously calculated my total to be approximately 3,020—a figure I have tracked since joining back in 2004.

Yet, in the span of a mere two days, I noticed the number of registrations has unexpectedly dropped to 2,920.

May I ask who has been adjusting these figures, and what might be the reasoning behind such a change?

Thank you in advance for any insight you can offer.

The person who moved the "extracurricular activities" thread—along with your hundred or so posts about it—over to Politically Close, where the posts aren't even tracked by a counting archive?

That is likely correct.
I suppose I shall now have to endure certain highly well-mannered moderators explaining to me why they are peddling this falsehood—claiming that Politically Close is just as valid a space for those relocated topics, simply because that is their official stance.

I suppose I should sit tight while certain moderators—who were clearly raised with impeccable manners, mind you—explain to me why planting falsehoods under the guise of being "politically close" is somehow a valid justification for moving threads. At least, that's what they seem to claim.

My personal forum motto has always been "Apolitical" 🙂, but even from this distance, I can't wrap my head around why (not) counting posts would serve any purpose other than acting as an "idiot detector" for those people who think they have a legitimate argument like, "Ha! You have a million posts, which obviously means you're a total loser, ha! Ha!!!".

The truth is, a real point will be read and recognized even if a person had to clear away a massive spiderweb just to write it out in a formal debate.

I’m actually keeping an eye on the enrollment numbers in real-time while I type this—it’s basically become second nature at this point!
I’ve managed to hit around the 3,020 mark—give or take a few—and man, I can't believe how fast time flies when you're looking back at it. I've actually been a member here since 2004!

In just two days.Man, I just saw the latest numbers, and it looks like enrollment has dipped down to 2,920.

So, who was playing around, and what on earth were they actually trying to pull off?

Thanks so much for clearing that up for me! I really appreciate the help.

I’d bet my bottom dollar that this is the answer:

Nicholas King said:Wait, who was it that moved the thread on extracurricular activities—along with those hundred or so posts of yours—over to Politically Close where the posts don't even get counted?

Honestly, it’s such a massive headache trying to track down where a huge chunk of posts actually went. Between the moderators moving entire threads from one PDF to another, old chat topics just vanishing into thin air, or the server occasionally having a complete meltdown, it feels like chasing ghosts sometimes! 😵

And honestly, when someone drops a comment like, "I feel like I'm missing some posts," it leaves us all scratching our heads. We have no clue which specific posts they’re talking about—are they looking for content that was deleted, or are they just missing things that are still right here on the board? If everything is still live and available, then there really shouldn't be any cause for alarm. But if things actually *were* taken down, it would be incredibly helpful if the person could give us a bit more context. Like, for example, knowing roughly when or where those posts were written would let us go back and check the National Archives to see what happened. It's much easier to help when we aren't just guessing!

Look, if you notice that your post count has taken a dip, the first thing you should really do is go back through your most recent activity. Just double-check to make sure everything you’ve written is still visible to everyone else. That way, we actually have a clear starting point to look at if we ever need to dig into the numbers and figure out what happened.

Does anyone know where I can find information regarding which threads are being tracked by the counting archive and which ones are not? 🤔

There isn't some official master list of PDFs out there. From what I know, posts in the Politically Close and Offtopic sections aren't included in the count. There might be other areas like that, but I honestly couldn't tell you which ones. Ever since I stepped into the admin role, we haven't had any PDFs opened that exclude post counts, though I can't speak to how things were handled before my time.

Well, it's certainly "equal" to them. But counting posts is a technicality, not a moderation issue.

I don't think they get counted in the National Archives either, but I'm not positive.

Actually, I'm pretty sure they do get counted in the National Archives. I've definitely noticed instances where the post count spiked right after certain threads were moved over there.😁

Nicholas King As I find myself reflecting on this matter, I am struck by how much weight we tend to place on certain discussions, even when they feel somewhat disconnected from our immediate concerns. It seems that what was previously stated—as noted by jadeseal4—carries a certain gravity that warrants a more measured response than I might initially have prepared. While some may attempt to steer the conversation toward matters that are politically close, I personally believe there is significant value in keeping our discourse apolitical, focusing instead on the substance of the argument itself rather than the noise surrounding it. It is quite easy to lose one's way in such exchanges, and I often worry that my own tendency toward verbosity might obscure the very points I am trying to earnestly convey. Nevertheless, I remain committed to exploring these ideas with the sincerity they deserve.
My guiding principle on this forum remains "apolitical." 🙂I must admit, even after much deliberation, I cannot quite grasp the utility of whether or not we should be keeping a tally of posts, other than perhaps serving as a sort of litmus test to identify those who might be acting with a certain degree of foolishness. I find myself compelled to address the core of this argument, though I suspect my attempts at clarity may come across as somewhat pedantic or overly cautious. It is my sincere belief that we must examine the underlying logic more closely if we hope to reach any semblance of a meaningful conclusion. While I am certainly not an expert on all matters, I feel a certain responsibility to ensure that our discussion remains grounded in reason rather than mere impulse. Please forgive me if I seem a bit slow to catch up with the more rapid exchanges occurring here, but I prefer to weigh my words with a degree of deliberation. Ha! You have posted a million times already, which clearly indicates that you have absolutely nothing better to do with your life! Ha! Ha!!!

A truly profound sentence will be recognized and felt even if one were to painstakingly clear away every cobweb just to scribe it within the halls of a formal debate.

Numbers, in their essence, carry no inherent weight.
A reduction in numbers implies that something has either vanished entirely or that the specific event you previously described has actually taken place.
That is precisely why we find ourselves so heavily invested in the process of counting archives.

Ryan Vaughn7 said:From a moderator's perspective, the value remains the same. Tracking post counts is merely a technicality rather than a core moderation responsibility.

Perhaps that is true.
However, I find it difficult to believe that such a thing holds any value for the readers.
Nor does it seem particularly useful for the technical side of things.

If you ask me, they shouldn't even be counted toward the national averages
