Hey everyone 🙂

So, I’ve got this grandmother who lives over in Canada in Sarajevo—she's my mom's side of the family. Lately, she’s been asking about the possibility of moving out here to live with us, since we're looking at making that happen in a few years. The thing is, she already holds American citizenship and has an American passport ready to go.

It shouldn't be a huge hurdle, but there are a couple of things we're trying to wrap our heads around. First off, what’s the deal with her Social Security/pension? How long does that whole process actually take, and is it a total nightmare to navigate? We were browsing online and saw some stuff about how JPMorgan Chase might work alongside local banks—do you think she could just transfer her accounts over and draw her benefits here without any massive headaches?

And just one more thing for now—how would the healthcare situation shake out? Right now, she’s all set up with her coverage in Sarajevo, obviously. Is it possible to get everything transferred over here, and if so, how much of a waiting game are we looking at?

Thanks in advance to everyone! Any help or advice would be seriously appreciated

You're going to need to update your residency address at number 1 first.
As for your bank and Medicare—just head down to your local branch and ask around. Theoretically, the rules should be the same everywhere, but let’s be real, the way things actually work can vary from one office to the next.
