Why was the "Car PDF" thread locked?

Why? We've seen this before. People jump into a thread and start arguing over nothing, so they lock it. Now, they’re just locking them instantly.

Plus, I don't see the point of this thread or what it actually brings to the table. 🤷 If people want to talk about a specific car, they go to the dedicated threads for it and swap stories there.

I locked this thread because we've been hitting the same playground topics over and over again. Honestly, I'm with Michael Lee4 on this one—there's just no point in rehashing them.

Whether this topic is considered "childish" or not... it shouldn't matter much.

If I have a question, I assume I'm allowed to ask it.

I stated quite clearly that I have no interest in bickering; my only goal is to see what people are driving.

I haven't even commented on why anyone would be satisfied with their vehicles or anything of the sort.

I am simply curious about what everyone drives.

That is all there is to it.

I fail to see any reason to lock this thread.
Those who want to answer may do so.
Those who don't can just skip it and move on.

Yet, I started a similar thread on the mobile phone subforum, where I am very active, and it functions without any issues.
When someone buys a new phone, they simply post it in the thread, and that's the end of it.
I intended for the vehicle discussions to work the exact same way.
Clearly, you all dislike it, so you are locking the thread.
Feel free to lock it then.

Car enthusiasts are a weird bunch. You've got people who clearly have too much free time on their hands and nothing better to do than troll everyone else. Every thread starts out fine, then someone mentions one specific thing and everything goes to hell. We’ve had threads like the one you're asking for plenty of times before. We could let it happen again, but it’ll end the exact same way. This isn't a social club; if you care about something, post it, and if you don't, just scroll past. But everyone feels the need to chime in just to prove someone else wrong. 🤣

So you changed your mind about us because we don't see the point in a thread like this? What can I say? Like I said, there are dedicated threads for that where people actually swap useful info. All this stuff about who drives what, mileage, or "hunting lists"—it's just exhausting. As mods who have been doing this forever, we already know how these things play out. You said you aren't interested in the bickering. Well, neither are we, which is why we don't think a thread like this is necessary. We moved past the stage of letting things spiral just to wait for the inevitable meltdown a long time ago. We know exactly how a thread about NHTSA ratings is going to end, or how a debate about Chinese imports or torque specs will go. We let those run for a bit so people can vent. But as for who owns what car? Honestly, I couldn't care less. If I want to know what people are driving, I'll check the specific enthusiast threads.

So what's the move? Let you open it just so we can sit around waiting for the nonsense to start? It's winter, people are bored at home, and all that... if you're that desperate, go ahead and start it, and enjoy it while we're still deciding whether to scrap it. 🙂

...if you ask me, we’re basically playing around with an experimental concept when you compare this to what they're doing over at MIT,
and honestly, looking at how topics usually go down the drain like most of these soulless discussions,
plus, if we consider the fact that people upgrade their smartphones way more often than they ever touch a car,
this whole thing is probably going to fade into total obscurity just like all those other similar threads you guys have started before...

That specific data point was important to me for other reasons, which is why I started these threads in the first place...
