Hey everyone. Due to some pretty significant bone deformity, my doctor is recommending surgery on my hallux valgus—basically a bunion. Has anyone here gone through this? What were your experiences like? Any advice you could offer? Also, what’s the deal with that specialized post-op boot the surgeon mentioned? Is there actually any point to wearing it, considering how much they cost? Appreciate any insight you can provide.😕

Hello,

In anatomical terms, the metacarpal refers to the radius bone in the forearm. "Metacarpal" isn't actually the name for the thumb bones themselves. The individual bones of the fingers—including the big toe—are technically called phalanges.

I'm pointing this out because we should probably update the thread title to avoid any confusion.

What exactly is the reason for the surgery? What’s the diagnosis? Are you perhaps dealing with hallux valgus? If that's the case, just follow the link provided to submit an inquiry.

I’ve been hunting for a thread about surgery for congenital anomalies, specifically involving the thumb, but I can't find anything. Does anyone happen to know how many days you typically spend in the hospital after a procedure to remove extra bone in the thumb? Is there some standard rule of thumb regarding the length of stay? To be specific, we're looking at polydactyly—specifically a fused nail on that finger.
