Hey everyone, so about three weeks ago I took a nasty fall playing soccer and landed right on my hand, which ended up causing this super complicated injury. Luckily, the doctor caught it immediately and laid out two paths: either I sit in a cast for three months or I go for a quick outpatient surgery. My doc actually pushed for the surgery because he’s seen way too many cases where just using a cast leads to nonunion since the blood flow to the bone is so poor, so honestly, the recovery odds with just a cast are basically a total gamble depending on the person. I decided to pull the trigger on the surgery, which happened two weeks ago, and everything went perfectly; they used Herbert's wire to fix the fracture and the imaging looks amazing—you can't even see the crack on the X-ray anymore! I had a follow-up yesterday, and the doctor told me I can ditch the plastic splint in two weeks, but then I have another check-up in four weeks for another X-ray to see if it actually held, which kind of trips me out. Has anyone here dealt with this specific type of procedure before? Like, what are the actual chances of a full recovery? I've been scouring the internet for info but haven't found anything concrete at all. Thanks in advance!
