I’ve been scouring this section of the forum, but I haven't found anything at all regarding my specific issue... and honestly, I don't quite understand why there isn't already a thread about this. Does nobody else here deal with missing their period for several months at a time or even longer?🤷

My cycles have always been irregular, usually running anywhere from two to ten days late. Back in January 2008, I started taking birth control pills for the first time, and I stayed on them consistently until this past April. I was using Logitech—which are supposedly the "mildest" ones when it comes to those hormonal effects. Of course, just like all of you who use this type of protection, my periods were perfectly on schedule every 28 days. But ever since I stopped more than three months ago, my period hasn't come back. Now, I know someone is going to advise me to go see a gynecologist... but I’ve already done that. I went in early June, and she told me pregnancy was ruled out. She prescribed a ten-day course of Norethindrone, after which everything was supposed to return to normal according to her. Instead, my period that month lasted only three days total, and even then, it was just some "traces"... almost nothing at all! 😕 I am not going back to her because I refuse to waste money on nonsense. If she already told me everything looks fine on the ultrasound, she would likely just prescribe me some other garbage similar to Primolut-N again.

After everything I've been through, I have firmly decided that I will never even think about taking hormones again. Instead, I am going to try with everything I have to get my cycle back to normal, because I wasn't aware of what I was doing to myself with those contraceptive pills that everyone praises so loudly, when in reality, they are poison! I’ve been taking Peruvian Maca capsules for six weeks now, and starting a few days ago, I began taking 30 drops of evening primrose oil daily with my meals, and now I wait... Since I started the Maca, I have been feeling wonderful and upbeat. Unfortunately, I could attribute my missed period to the massive amount of stress I've faced over the last few months, but if that were the only cause, I can't wrap my head around why I didn't at least have a normal period triggered by those last hormones I took.

I realize that for me, it won't just take two or three months, but perhaps more than a year for my body to return to even a semblance of normalcy, but I am ready and armed with patience.🙂 I am eating healthy, exercising regularly, and I will continue with my Maca and evening primrose oil.😬 Maybe I'll even start some herbal teas specifically designed to regulate the cycle, and that's it.

Just to note... I'm only 30 years old, so I doubt I'm in menopause already.😁

Does anyone else have a similar experience? Has anyone actually managed to fix everything without relying on those synthetic hormonal poisons?

There are plenty of threads out there discussing amenorrhea, but what I’m really wondering is—has a doctor actually given you an official diagnosis of secondary amenorrhea?
Given that your cycle seems to be dragging on by anywhere from two to ten days, I suspect we might actually be looking at oligomenorrhea—basically just those classic, extended cycles rather than a total absence of menstruation.

How have your hormone levels been looking lately? Have you had any blood work done to check them?

My apologies then... I just couldn't seem to find that specific thread 😢 and from what I can gather, it seems like nobody else here is dealing with this exact situation—where the period just completely vanishes after stopping the pill.

That two-to-ten day delay was back when I was transitioning from my first period to starting the pill, but as I mentioned, since I stopped taking them on April 22nd of this year, my cycle hasn't returned at all. I've had my hormones checked, including my thyroid, and my TSH came back slightly elevated... I haven't had my reproductive hormones tested yet, though. I suppose I really ought to go in and get my prolactin and FSH levels checked; I assume if there’s something seriously wrong, those diagnoses would point me in the right direction, wouldn't they?

So, I’ve been dealing with this since middle school—I got my period back in 6th grade and honestly, I never really gave it a second thought back then. It was always there, though it would be late sometimes or just skip a month here and there... but now, at 23, I’ve missed three months in a row. I finally went to see my OBGYN, and they found a clear cyst on my right ovary. We ran some hormone tests too, and everything was pretty much out of whack. My doctor put me on Diane 35, but after taking them for three months, I started getting these crazy headaches—like, intense pressure in my head—so I just stopped taking them. Now, my period still hasn't shown up, and it's driving me absolutely insane... I'm not even stressed lately. I work out, I eat healthy, I sleep enough, I don't smoke or drink... I'm a totally normal weight, about 5'5" and 121 lbs, I feel good about my body and my skin is fine... I just don't get why this is happening. It used to come regularly, sure, and it's been late before, but this is different. Has anyone else gone through something like this? Am I maybe infertile? Could it be some kind of infection or bacteria? I'm seriously at a loss here...

Every time I go to the gynecologist, they just try to fix me with pills. I really, really don't want to be on birth control or any kind of hormonal medication... I live an active lifestyle and focus so much on fitness, I just hate being dependent on pills...

Please, can someone give me some advice????

I am 23 years old and have been dealing with amenorrhea for four and a half years now. About three and a half years ago, I was also diagnosed with type 1 diabetes 🙂. My gynecologist suggested the missing periods might be a direct consequence of the diabetes, but my endocrinologist disagrees; they pointed out that the diabetes diagnosis came a full year after my cycle had already stopped. I don't have PCOS, and according to my tests, my organs are functioning normally—it is simply that my period refuses to return. My estradiol and FSH levels are extremely low. I underwent hormone replacement therapy for six months, but it was entirely ineffective; if anything, it made things worse. The treatment actually caused my liver enzymes to spike, which has left me feeling quite skeptical about further hormonal interventions. I am wondering if anyone here has faced a similar situation and managed to find a solution, and if so, what worked for you?
Any insights would be greatly appreciated 🙂😍😉.

Hi everyone. I’m 28 and have been dealing with secondary amenorrhea for six years now. My periods just don't happen. All my lab results come back within the normal range—FSH is 5.0, prolactin is 130, estradiol is 13.99, and both my pituitary and ovarian ultrasounds look fine. When I take hormone therapy like Cyclo-Progynova, I get a cycle, but as soon as I stop the pills, nothing happens. I’m 5'10" and weigh 121 lbs, which is basically a model's build, so I'm wondering if that could be the root of the issue. I've always been naturally thin; even when my cycles were regular, I weighed about 127 lbs. I'd appreciate any advice on what steps to take next, who I should see, or if anyone has gone through something similar.

I stumbled upon this old thread and wasn't sure if you were still around, but I figured I'd reach out anyway.
My amazing daughter is 16 and hasn't had her period in two years. We finally sat down with three top-tier pediatric endocrinologists and gynecologists a few days ago, and they confirmed it's secondary amenorrhea—specifically hypogonadotropic hypogonadism. So, she actually started Trisequens yesterday. We really tried to avoid the heavy stuff by using natural remedies and herbal supplements first, but honestly? Total waste of time. One of those "natural" attempts lasted six months and did absolutely zero for her. All three doctors insisted we go the hormonal route because without enough estrogen, her bone density is going to take a massive hit. She’s also dealing with Hashimoto’s thyroiditis; it seems to be in remission based on recent tests, but she’s still on Synthroid. Her latest TSH is creeping up at 1.5, and her estradiol is under 20. Her egg reserve is good and her pituitary MRI came back clear. It feels like your situation might be similar—dealing with an autoimmune issue like diabetes alongside the secondary amenorrhea. Just wondering if there's any update on your end, how things are going, or if you ever tried Trisequens? Any info would be so appreciated. Best
