What's your dream music club?

Man, if they’d just let us throw some 60s, 70s, or even 80s nights... just chill, laid-back vibes where you don't have to deal with a bunch of random drunks, but actually catch a crowd that genuinely appreciates good music instead.

I need a bar with a heavy, solid, high-quality counter... something massive.

- Live music is decent, maybe a 7/10....
- Happy hours are on point... morning coffee, afternoon beers.
- Weekend football is on the TV.
- Constant blues and rock playing over the speakers.
- Chill vibes all around.

My dream club...

hm... honestly, it’s gotta be the legendary K4 in Austin.
When it all first kicked off, man, it was just so raw and original.
Back then (like 18 years ago), the space was perfect. It was in a basement, full of exposed pipes, just drifting from one room to the next, beer was practically dirt cheap, stuff like that. They’d close on Mondays, Tuesdays had these themed nights, Wednesdays were specific parties, Thursdays were student rages, Fridays were for the skater scene—later that turned into the old-school rave vibe—Saturdays were all about metal, industrial, and grunge, and Sundays? Sundays were those legendary pink nights (gay parties, which is actually how the club started).

I spent every single Saturday there. I met everyone, all the guys and girls, right there. We were like one big, gross, beautiful family.
Eventually, my Saturdays turned into Fridays, then Thursdays, and finally Sundays. Basically, we lived there from Thursday straight through Sunday.

Then, of course, the owners realized they needed to pay rent and modernize a bit, and everything just went totally to hell.
Now, I can still go to that club, but it’s just... different. Now I only go for the pink parties, which are phenomenal (compared to anything else in Austin), or if they have some drum and bass...

As far as my metal scene goes, there is absolutely nothing in this damn city. Maybe something happens at The Apollo, but it’s just not the same.

For real though, my absolute favorite spots are local clubs and Studio 54 in New York City.
I remember finishing a night there once after the Pride Parade. It was way too good. And obviously, I ended up going back a few more times 😁.

I’m reading about what the club scene is like in the US... well, in Austin, it’s just beyond terrible. There’s nowhere to go. Everywhere is just kids, or these preppy types with their damn ten-dollar beers, listening to garbage music that you hear on every single radio station...
So yeah... I really miss my K4 🙂
