Best software for book layout and formatting?

Does anyone happen to know of a decent program for doing crossovers that offers a free download? Ideally, I’m looking for a full version rather than just some limited trial if that's even possible. If you do have a recommendation, could you please drop the link to the site where you grabbed it? I've tried downloading a few different programs myself, but honestly, none of them actually worked for me.😢

You might want to give Apache OpenOffice a shot; it’s actually what I use for my own projects. It’s completely free, and you get the full version without any of those annoying paywalls. Here’s the link for you:

It even comes in an American version if that makes things easier for you. Just dive in and see which one feels more intuitive.
