My dilemma is that I’m itching to get some pull-ups done at home...
Do you have any suggestions on where I might mount a bar? My door frame is about 6'3", which makes me think a standard setup would be far too low for a decent range of motion.

Does anyone know if there’s a specific type of bar designed to hook onto the frame while still allowing your body to hang clear of it?

Something along the lines of this:

Whenever questions like this pop up, my go-to answer is always eBay. You can find just about anything there for next to nothing... maybe try searching for a pull-up bar and see what catches your eye.

Something along these lines should do the trick:

Just search for "pull-up bars" over on Craigslist. 🙂

^Thanks, this is exactly what I had in mind. It would be ideal if there were a way to set this up without having to drill holes into the walls or door frames... I know those tension rod systems exist, but I’m not talking about just wedging a bar between the jambs; I'm looking for something more substantial that attaches through some other method entirely...

If my memory serves me correctly, I believe I spotted a bar just like that over at Dick's Sporting Goods.

If I’ve had a bit too much to drink, does it really matter if the pole is 190 cm...
Would this setup actually work?

By twisting the caps, you extend the rod so it presses against the pole, and since it's rubberized, it shouldn't slip at all...

It’s probably better you figured that out on your own rather than having someone snap at you like that.

The rod has a rubber coating, but I wouldn't bet on it staying put against the pole.
If I were you, I'd just drive two screws in from the side to give the rod some actual stability.
You could probably find something similar at Walmart for about $17 a couple of weeks ago.

Walmart had them for $17 a couple weeks back.

I used to buy way more than I needed, mostly for friends, but even I went through a phase where I overdid it.
It won't slip, but watch your nose so you don't catch it on the frame if you've got a bigger one, like me 🤷

It doesn't really slide, but you have to be careful not to catch the nose on the doorframe if you have a larger nose, like me 🤷

So you're saying it won't slide down the frame when a typical American tries to use it?

And if the tip of the nose catches on the frame, it might just split the wood wide open. 🙂

The rod has a rubber coating, though I can't be entirely certain it won't just slip right off the shaft...
I’d probably throw in a couple of extra screws on the side, just to give that rod something solid to lean against...
A few weeks back at Walmart, I happened to come across... $17.

The real question is whether you can even find anything like that in Kansas City...
$17 😲And they usually end up costing quite a bit... $67!

You can grab them at the subway right now for $30, I picked some up yesterday (honestly, just grab them before they’re gone)...they’re actually great. They have a weight capacity of up to $40 and there are these little holes on the sides of the rubber, so you could always jam a bunch of extra screws in there if you want some added security.

Jason Campbell70 said:So, I guess it won't slide right down the pole when some typical American builds a makeshift rig, huh?

If you tried to jam that thing onto the tip of your nose, the whole damn pole would just snap right off. 🙂

Man, whatever the Germans cook up, people just blindly follow! 🙂
It’s absolute nonsense—it couldn't even handle two hundred pounds!

Just like those Passats and other junker cars... 😉
