Hey there, I was wondering if it would actually be worth it to have a family member over in the United States pick up a Macbook Pro for me while they're out there? Is there any real difference between the models sold over there versus what we get here in terms of how they run or just the overall price tag?

A few years back, I was over in the United States on a ship. A colleague of mine decided to pick up an Apple laptop with the specific intention of flipping it once he got back home to the States. The price gap was actually quite substantial. If I recall correctly, he paid somewhere in the neighborhood of $1,200, whereas if he had tried to find that same machine locally, it would have cost him closer to $4667. I can't give you an exact figure, mind you, but electronics are significantly more affordable over there, and honestly, if I had the chance, I’d probably grab another one myself. On my last trip, I actually picked up an HP Pavilion for just $399.

Ultimately, though, you really don't need to guess; a quick bit of research online tells you everything you need to know. Just head over to the Best Buy website and look at their current listings.

Honestly, there isn't much difference at all besides the keyboard layout—though from what I've seen, you can pretty much toggle everything over to American settings easily enough. You will definitely need a plug adapter for the US outlets, though, which is probably around $17 better to account for. Just make sure you don't get hit with crazy fees at customs when it arrives!

An Apple device is worth every single penny.

I picked up a device over in the States and haven't had a single issue. My only advice? Don't go lugging around all the extra boxes and catalogs. Just stick to the gear and the power cord, and you're good to go. 😉
