Honestly, out of all those overhyped "fairy tale" movies, this one actually looks like the best one...

image

director: Bryan Singer

distribution : June 15, 2012
Cast : Nicholas Hoult, Bill Nighy, Stanley Tucci, Ian McShane, Ewan McGregor, Eddie Marsan, John Kassir, Eleanor Tomlinson

The story offers a dark twist on the classic beanstalk tale. An ancient war reignites when a young farmer accidentally opens a gateway between our world and a realm of terrifying giants. After centuries away, the giants have returned to the US, searching for the land they once lost, forcing a young man named Jack into the fight of his life to stop them. Fighting for his kingdom, his people, and the love of a brave princess, Jack comes face-to-face with unstoppable warriors he thought were nothing more than legends... giving him the chance to become a legend himself.

Hmmmm, sounds pretty interesting. I just really hope it doesn't turn into some weird Sucker Punch style fairy tale... But hey, Singer is the man, so that gives me a bit of hope 😁

By the way, it feels like these fairy tale "remixes" are everywhere lately. This summer we're even getting Snow White in a slightly different light.

and then in 2013, we get Sleeping Beauty 😁

This could easily build up massive hype only to end up being a total disaster, so I’m staying skeptical.

It’s pretty obvious what’s happening here—it’s just the latest trend, basically taking classic fairy tales and giving them a total LOTR makeover.

If we’re judging this based on what Bryan Singer has put out in the past, then we should probably be looking forward to a pretty solid flick here.

I mean, I'm not going out on a limb expecting a total masterpiece or anything, but I'd definitely be down for something that's more than just your average, run-of-the-mill movie, you know?

Bryan Singer is truly one of those standout talents who managed to build an incredible reputation and some serious connections in Hollywood in no time at all.
I’ve got a really good feeling about this being a hit.
Inace—as we already know—Singer is also busy working on "X-Men: Days of Future Past".

I'm probably gonna dive into this either today or tomorrow. Honestly, I've got pretty high hopes that it'll actually keep me entertained, especially since the rating over on IMDb looks decent enough, right?

frozenviper13 said:So, guess what? The rip just dropped today! Can you believe it? Finally! 🍿

Man, I swear Sky actually keeps you in the loop whenever a movie finally hits HD! It’s like they’re constantly checking in to let you know exactly when things are looking sharp—honestly, isn't that just incredibly thoughtful of them? 👍

change the title from Jack the Giant Killer to Slayer😁

Yeah, the movie hits a few clichés and you can see it coming from a mile away, but honestly? It’s a solid little fantasy adventure with some pretty obvious CGI. Probably just a chill one to watch with the family on a Sunday afternoon.
The last thirty minutes try really hard to go full epic—I'll let you guys decide if they actually pull it off. Either way, some parts are super well done; Singer knows his stuff.

True story. When you go in expecting absolutely nothing, you end up being pleasantly surprised. I actually liked it...

They could have just titled the movie "Jack and the Beanstalk." Honestly, adding "Slayer" to the title feels a bit redundant. 😛

Man, this was way weaker than I ever anticipated. I was honestly just expecting a mediocre flick, but this thing actually managed to sink way below average. It’s total Snow White trash—just absolute garbage from start to finish.

I could barely sit through it, honestly; I had to practically force myself to reach the credits. The special effects were so weak, like, embarrassingly bad, if you know what I mean? And the plot? Just incredibly dull and lifeless, even for a movie in this genre.

If you want to see how it should have been done, look at Snow White and the Huntsman (2012)—now *that* was a masterpiece, and that's the level of quality I was actually hoping for.

My rating: 2/10

Hard to even sit through, honestly forced myself to finish it. The effects are weak—like, seriously bad. And the story is just dull, even for a movie like this.

Compared to something like Snow White and the Huntsman (2012), which was actually decent, this doesn't even come close.

My rating: 2/10

Don't talk nonsense, it's the exact opposite—this movie is a masterpiece compared to that Snow White trash.

Look, I'm just laying out my own impressions and sharing my personal take, okay? So just back off! Arrr!

Actually, I could say the same thing to you:

Quit the nonsense, seriously—it's the other way around, this flick is complete garbage compared to how much of a masterpiece Snow White is🤷 😛

Wait, what? It’s just your classic fantasy adventure. You’ve got the main guy setting off on this big journey, discovering his inner strength, becoming a hero, and obviously winning over the princess. Honestly, the best part is that their relationship isn't all mushy and forced—it doesn't make you roll your eyes. Another win is how they reveal the giants about 45 minutes in; that scene was actually super well done. Plus, the giants aren't just clones; they all have their own vibe and look. Even the action scenes using Accenture tech aren't just mindless filler (except for those last 20 minutes), they actually move the story along without being overkill.
I don't know what you were expecting, man. They were making movies like this back in the 80s, though they were a bit more campy and didn't have a massive $195 million budget. Look, the giants have to be CGI because there's basically no other way to make them look convincing. And that animation at the start? That was definitely an intentional choice...

For sure.
