George Lopez77 said:Oh yeah... and what was that thing he said before the Intervention... something about Catholics?🤷

This track is definitely for lapsed Catholics, given the lyrics.

It’s such a bummer that Jello Biafra had to pull out of the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival. At least if you ask me.

But putting that aside, tomorrow actually looks like it’s going to be a blast: we've got The White Stripes, Mastodon, Rage Against the Machine...

Honestly, I don't think the ticket was a waste at all.
Yesterday was more about soaking up different vibes and cultures, whereas tomorrow is a completely different beast altogether. 🙂

EDIT: Oh, and if I'm reading this right, the whole lineup costs less than a single Jon Bon Jovi ticket. Which, to be fair, isn't a bad deal—he'd definitely hit the spot today 🙂—but The White Stripes are just better... plus, you get a nice little bonus on top.

Since we're already talking about Intervention—how did it actually sound to you guys? I was feeling pretty miserable because of those wristbands, so I think that might have made the performance seem way worse than it really was... things definitely seemed to pick up after that set though. Any objective takes out there?

Is there any way to actually find a setlist for a specific band? I'm trying to track down what The Doors played, specifically.

Hey guys, how’s the subway situation looking? Especially late at night?

I'm trying to get from somewhere out near the suburbs over toward downtown... would I be able to just grab a train for that, or what?😁

Honestly, I feel like Kane right now—I’ve been struggling with the sound all day long. I can't quite put my finger on it, but the main stage just felt totally lacked any real punch.

And the other stages? Surprisingly underwhelming, too.

At least I'm glad to see the lead singer from Goribor is still kicking.

Seriously, screw the organizers and that beer from $6.75. It was unbelievable.

It’ll probably be on Last.fm. Maybe.

As for Arcade Fire, they were great for me.
Though they could have been better. And yeah, they could've done an encore. They always come back with Wake Up, but since that was the last one, I figured they wouldn't bring it back anymore.

I was right in the front row and could easily talk over everything; I heard everyone around me. The sound system was a total fail.
Regarding the band members—they all worked hard and seemed totally into it. When Kane went down into the crowd, we acted like typical Americans.
Man, some guy rips his shirt and the guy just bolts back up.
He just wanted a little connection with the audience. 🤷

Is there any way to get this bracelet off without snapping it? I’d really rather not spend my whole day wearing it.

p.s. That beer was a total disaster—honestly, felt more like drinking water than actual beer!

This was my fourth time at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, and honestly, it was by far the worst one yet. It felt subpar in almost every single way. For instance, even the wristband felt like it was made from cheaper, lower-quality material; I was actually worried it might snap while I was tossing and turning in my sleep, leaving me unable to get back in today. 🙄 Even those damn "new" beers ("Bud Light" 😬) were worse than what they had last year.

This was only the second time I’ve found myself caught in a massive crowd surge caused by the wristbands. For anyone here who isn't familiar—and looking at this forum, there seem to be plenty of newcomers—you have to actually wear them, not just hold onto them. They’ve used them every year to manage access for people coming and going over the two days. The first time this happened was three years ago when a terrible afternoon downpour sent everyone—even the folks who usually show up early—rushing toward the gates all at once right before evening.

Yesterday, though, if you ask me, everyone swarmed the area ahead of the final two headliners simply because the overall lineup this year is so "thin" that there wasn't much worth seeing earlier in the day. 🤷

In previous years, I’d make it a point to arrive much earlier because there were always fantastic bands playing deep into the afternoon, and plenty of interesting up-and-coming acts finding their footing. This year? Nothing like that. 🤷

Let’s hope this is just a temporary dip due to the recession, though replacing some of the bigger sponsors (moving from the aforementioned beer brands to meat industry giants) doesn't exactly bode well. 🙄

On another note, to confirm what others are saying, Arcade Fire was pretty lackluster—kind of bland and uninspired. Personally, I don't think it was a "bad sound system" issue; some performers are just better in the studio than they are live, and there's no fixing that. 🤷

Since several quotes from Win have been circulating from the heavy late-night chatter among the crowd (ranging from religious types to old-school basketball fans 🙄), I think it would be much more accurate to mention how Win himself seemed genuinely stunned by the massive crowd and how much they clearly expected from them. His expression of disbelief was something along the lines of, "I can't believe you're all singing our lyrics this loudly; we're just an indie band from Montreal."

And seriously, where does this level of hype come from for a festival set from a band that feels like they belong in a club setting? 🤷

Jamiroquai, however, was the complete opposite; he totally saved the night. I had planned to stick around for maybe thirty minutes just to be polite, but contrary to my expectations, I stayed until the very end. The man (Jay Kay) simply possesses that certain something that nature provides—something many other talented musicians (like AF) will never achieve no matter how much they practice: pure charisma. ☕

I wouldn't say I'm a huge fan of his studio albums, but live on stage in front of a crowd—that is something else entirely! 🙂

No amount of "poor acoustics" could stop him; from the very first beat, he effortlessly turned the concert into a massive, happy, outdoor party.

I actually managed to pull it off about four years ago, but the bands back then were way higher quality and much sturdier. Honestly, I wouldn't even attempt it with this one.

Also, back then, the staff checking them at the entrance on day two were the same women who put them on you in the first place. So, when one of them noticed I’d taken mine off and popped it back on—you can always tell because it looks all crumpled up—I just talked my way out of it by being totally blunt about how much I hated wearing the thing. It worked just fine.

But from what I can see, they switched things up after that year and now it's security guards handling the checks, and I really don't feel like messing around with them. 🙄

Absolute madness... best concert I've seen in ages, though I only caught the last 20 minutes because I had zero clue who they were. 😢(((((((((((

Adam Moore said:That’s honestly what top-tier sound systems are for. You actually hear the band, you catch every single note, and you can still hold a conversation without effort. You don't get that nasty feedback or humming you find in those trashed local setups where you have to scream like a maniac just to be heard over the music. The issue here was the mix, though. It was poorly executed because the highs were totally washed out—everything from the organ to the accordion and even the string players just got drowned. The crowd looked half-dead, probably from the trauma of waiting forever in line for those damn wristbands.

BTW, were you wearing a Robyn shirt? If you were, I heard your complaining through the entire set. It was driving me nuts. 🙂

Look, I know they have great sound systems; that was just one of my gripes. You're talking about the organ and strings, but personally, I barely even caught the piano, and then at one point the bass just absolutely exploded. Someone really botched the levels.

Yeah, I was wearing a Robyn shirt 😁, but which one were you? The one in the Montreal shirt or someone behind me?
I mean, damn, if you could hear my complaints directed at my friends, then it must have been seriously quiet. Sorry, I'm not doing this today 😉

The sound quality at the main stage was a total disaster...
AF was solid, though. They’re one of my favorites, so I got exactly what I expected despite the shitty audio.
Elvis Jackson actually caught me off guard in a good way—really fun set.🙂
Mika mali is just exhausting... Yeah, the songwriting is tight and they clearly know their instruments, but they sound so incredibly monotonous that I can't handle more than two songs before checking out... Saw them about a month ago at NPR and it was the exact same thing... Even having a killer violinist doesn't save them from being boring.😁
Orange Strips have one track I love (Kissed a girl), but the rest of their stuff is pretty mid...

The look on people's faces waiting in line for wristbands while everyone else swarmed the gates at 9 PM=🤣

ARCAAAAAAAADEEEEEEEEEE FIREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They were incredible, maybe even the best show I've ever seen... Sadly, out in the Suburbs, it felt like everyone around me suddenly had some life-altering conversation to finish, though luckily they finally shut up and gave the band the attention they deserved 😉

Good thing I showed up early so I didn't have to wait in line for wristbands, though I was already pretty wiped out by the time Jamiroquai finished, but whatever 😁

That was easily the worst Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival to date. Had I not secured my ticket for free, I wouldn't have bothered attending.
The lineup was underwhelming, $6.75 plus there were beer costs $3.25 and an extra fee for the silent party!
Essentially, after paying full price for the festival, you're expected to pay even more just to access the silent party—and they demand cash on-site, not vouchers. To make matters worse, this requirement isn't mentioned anywhere on the official website. T-Mobile is being truly unscrupulous here, though apparently, the local crowds don't seem to mind such tactics.

They weren't bland. The sound system was just total garbage, so they actually sounded SUPER considering the circumstances. Win really put in the effort and had more than enough connection with the crowd.
Maybe they were just exhausted and lost their spark.
And no. They aren't worse live because they always put on a show and give it their all. They're one of the better bands I've seen—or heard (as much as I could) —live.

At major festivals, everyone—except maybe those absolute last headliners playing the dead hours of the night when nobody else is left on stage—has to stick to a really strict set time. It’s usually so tight that if they played a naked set with a "planned" encore, it would be laughably short, and the crowd might actually get annoyed.

It’s all baked into their contracts, so this isn't some spontaneous band decision made on the fly. 🤷

Just wanted to touch on the Arcade Fire set. Full disclosure right out of the gate: I don't know a single one of their songs, but let me tell you, it was anything but boring. Honestly, I was actually bummed when they didn't come back out for an encore. The sheer energy those guys pour onto that stage is unreal. You could tell we were watching a band operating at absolute peak performance... and I have zero regrets about catching them live.

The Doors actually caught me totally off guard in the best way possible. My only regret is that we had to ditch them to go see Jamiroquai, which—let's be real—is just kind of "meh" to me. They put on a professional show, sure, but it lacked that certain something...

But for me, the real highlight today is definitely Dan D (Mastodon, Grinderman, Cypress Hill...). The only problem is trying to figure out how to squeeze everything into the schedule, even with this killer lineup.
