Help, please. I’m starting a new thread because I honestly have no idea where else to turn for answers. For the last three months, I’ve been dealing with this intermittent but incredibly intense itching in my genital and anal areas—specifically around the vulva and anus. I went to see my gynecologist, but my Pap smear came back completely clear, and she claims she doesn't see any signs of a yeast infection. The issue, however, is that this discomfort just won't subside.

The itching and stinging sensation seems to flare up every single time I wear tight clothing, even if I make sure to wear 100% cotton underwear. When I'm walking, the friction probably makes it much worse, to the point where it's almost unbearable. During those times, my labia get visibly red. The area around my anus also tends to become inflamed, and the internal rectal area actually looks quite irritated. I've gone through two boxes of vaginal suppositories on pure guesswork, and I've tried applying creams like Nystatin, Lotrimin, and Lotriderm, but nothing provides lasting relief! Interestingly, I've noticed that if I wear a pad—like during my period—or much looser underwear, the symptoms don't show up. I also happened to notice what look like tiny red "threads," maybe a millimeter long, on my underwear a few times; I wouldn't have even spotted them if I hadn't looked closely, since there are only ever one or two at most. I'm not sure if that's a relevant detail, but I figured I should mention it.

I simply cannot live like this every day, and I certainly can't spend the rest of my life avoiding pants, tights, and everything else! Please, I need some help! 🙏

You might find some useful experiences on this thread, since you aren't quite sure what's going on yet.

It doesn't necessarily have to be a yeast infection—and it might not even manifest as one—but the skin in the genital area (both inside and out) can definitely feel irritated. It’s probably best to let the area breathe as much as possible and stick to appropriate clothing. Honestly, it’s such a hassle when we're dealing with these hot summer days; the absolute worst thing for this kind of discomfort, especially for sensitive women, is being forced into tight clothes that trap sweat against the skin.

I think it would be a good idea to visit a dermatologist or a specialist to get an actual look at what’s happening. Maybe you're just experiencing heightened sensitivity, in which case you might want to be more mindful of the types of pads, underwear, and fabrics you use. 🤷
Edit: It would also be wise to have your OB-GYN perform a Pap smear or perhaps a swab (to check for both aerobic and anaerobic bacteria) just to see if there are any traces of Candida or something else entirely, just so you can rule out all the potential culprits.

Hey, I was wondering how you ended up fixing this? I'm going through similar symptoms and can't find anything helpful online either. :-(

Honestly, just go check out the thread on vulvodynia. I'm pretty sure you'll find some actual answers over there.🙂
