Honestly, he should just grab a Corsair or maybe even an Corsair A50 and call it a day 👍 (once he actually saves up enough cash, obviously)

By the time he actually pulls the trigger, there'll be plenty more out there..
And honestly, it just comes down to how much cash he's willing to drop...
Maybe he should just check the OC PDF for some actual advice then

My folks have agreed to pick up the tab for my computer case, but the deal we struck is that I’m responsible for covering the cost of the monitor myself...
Right now, I’ve got $667 sitting there—so, should I go ahead and grab a monitor for $500 and maybe a fridge for $167,
or would it be wiser to put everything toward the monitor first and just keep saving from there?

My suggestion? Just don't go over about... $100 Skip the fridge. You don't even need it. Might be cheaper to just hunt for a deal on some forums—I actually snagged an AC freezer online for a steal. $33So, I flipped that one and grabbed a Scythe Ninja for 170. Then I turned the Ninja around for... $67 So I picked up a Scythe Mugen for $200, only to find out the exact same one is sitting on the shelf at Best Buy for way less. Seriously? $125)...

A monitor... hmm... any good ones out there for around $400?$500...
Keep the change for later... why go all in at once? 👍

Yeah, think about that for a second...

So you won't even have enough left for a burger after the AC kicks in? 😬

Here’s what I’m thinking—take a look and see what you think:

1x Asrock M3N78D, s.AM3 - NVIDIA nForce 720D, ATX, Solid Capacitor
1x Intel Core i7-970, socket AM3, 2.8Ghz, 9MB
1x Arctic-Cooling Freezer 13, Socket 775/1156/1366/754/939/AM2/AM3
1x DDR3 4GB (2x2GB) Kingmax, 1333MHz, FLFE
1x Gigabyte HD6970, 2GB GDDR5, DVI-I/DBI-D + HDMI, PCI-E 2.1
1x HDD SAMSUNG 500GB 7200rpm 16MB cache Serial ATA II-300, F3
1x Napajanje XFX Core Edition 80+ 550W PSU - EasyRail technology
1x Pioneer Lite-On DVD Writer, DVD±RW, 24x DVD±R ,8x DL , 40x CD-R
1x ASUS Motherboard, midi tower, without PSU, black-silver, USB

Total: $5,560.49 via Amazon + this Dell Monitor
I also threw in a high-end GPU just so the build is truly complete.

Rebbit - I’ve always had a bit of a soft spot for these types of coolers

I can't see any of the coolers... (p.s. okay, now I see what you mean)
but it isn't really about what looks pretty, it’s about what actually works 👍

my picks for unknown would be the Mugen, A50, or A70..
hey, what you suggested is fine too, if you don't feel like dropping that kind of cash on a cooler..

but if you really want to blow that much money, I'd go with the Noctua C14 from $150 the PC hardware forums

@Bryan Evans77 text..
you shouted yourself hoarse and you're still standing..
how many games even use 6 cores???

Could anyone point me toward a direct link for that cooler...?
I'm expecting to drop quite a bit—my current rig is already five years old, you see, which feels like an eternity in tech years...

Just take a look at what I was actually aiming for with my budget, guys, 😂😂
honestly, there’s just no way to compare it to your setups

🙄
So, when you guys put together these component lists and show us the total price, I gotta know—is there anything else I need to pick up besides the actual parts? Like, am I gonna be hunting down extra cables, connectors, or some other random gear just to get everything hooked up inside the case? Or does everything needed to make the build run come standard with the components themselves, meaning I don't have to budget for extra junk? 🤷😕

Sorry if this sounds like a rookie question or if I stepped on anyone's toes here, but I genuinely don't know, so I figured I'd just ask.

Well, you came to the right place to ask....

Sorry if that's a dumb question or if anyone takes offense, I just don't know so I'm asking.

The motherboard comes with a few cables and all that junk..
The power supply itself has all the cables you need to feed the components + that black cord that plugs into the wall...
The GPU and everything else just plug into their slots, fans have their own wires that connect to the motherboard or PSU, and sometimes the GPU needs an extra power cable if you're using an older PSU
Plus, the case comes with all the mounting hardware and panel bits..

for example

Alright, so tell me—is it actually possible to cram two power supplies into one case? I’m thinking about grabbing someone to help me swap out my old parts into this old chassis, but the current 230W unit is way too weak for what I'm planning. My brother-in-law has some older power supplies lying around, so I was hoping I could just use those instead of dropping cash on a beefier new one.

It’s possible, sure. But if you don't have $117 for a decent power supply, why even bother buying a new rig?
Honestly, trying to cut corners there is just asking for a headache. Plus, you’d probably end up with another weak PSU that can't even feed the CPU properly...
It isn't about how many watts you have, it's about the quality... 👍

Don't blame me for anything that happens after clicking this link or following what's inside... 👍

Here is another question—maybe a bit of a silly one—but I was wondering: do I actually need to go out and buy a dedicated network card and a sound card?

Edit: Also, regarding the magazine from South Dakota—if I send them an email, do they just put everything together and mail it directly to my house?

It really boils down to the motherboard you pick and what you’re actually trying to get done. Most modern boards come with both features built right in—take the ASUS ROG Maximus for example. If you go that route, you won't

And obviously, you pay upfront...😁

Yeah, I'm thinking about picking up a new PC too. 😁
Can anyone tell me what I'm looking at here? http://www.bestbuy.com/example-desktop-link ??
The graphics card info isn't listed anywhere. Maybe someone here knows.
I don't know anything about overclocking, but can I push it to 4 GHz?
Can I also get $333 a 22-inch monitor with this?
Will this computer run new games like Halo 2 or Call of Duty: Black Ops on max settings?

I know that's a lot of questions. I really need some help because I don't know much about computers and I don't want to buy something bad.
Thanks. 😁
