A PC and an iMac are both computers. Your car vs. motorcycle analogy is garbage.

Are you seriously suggesting that a custom-built PC using a new Sandy Bridge Processor, a motherboard, and an Nvidia GTX 580 isn't a computer comparable to an iMac? It's the exact same thing, just significantly faster and much cheaper when you look at the actual components used in both.
The difference is the OS, the design, and the logo. But under the hood, the Apple machinery costs three times more than a PC built with the same parts.

Greetings to everyone, to avoid cluttering things up by starting yet another thread, I was wondering if anyone here has had any significant experience with the latest generation of the Mac mini, specifically regarding this commercial version
I find myself questioning whether it truly justifies such a substantial investment.

No Mac is worth the premium you have to pay for it here in the States 😬 but tell me, what’s the actual use case? If you're just browsing the web, running Microsoft Office, maybe setting up an HTPC, and you really need something compact, then a Mac mini is a solid call... for anything else? Not even close.

After spending years exclusively on Mac, I’ve reached a point where I wouldn’t touch a PC again, even if someone handed me one for free.
Everything I’ve owned has run flawlessly for years without needing a single reboot, whereas a few of my recent attempts with brand-new machines—bought legally from an authorized big-box retailer—hit me with that dreaded Blue Screen of Death almost immediately. When you actually factor in all the hours I wasted driving back and forth to the service center and dealing with the endless back-and-forth arguments over what went wrong (though, to be fair, the technicians there were quite polite and handled things professionally), buying a Mac that just works ends up being the much more economical choice in the long run.

I know a ton of people are gonna jump in now with those tired old stereotypes, trying to explain how Steve Jobs basically brainwashed us all with research and marketing gimmicks, but honestly? I just don't have the energy to argue with them—especially the ones who've never even touched a Mac, let alone actually used one.

I'm in total agreement with you and Carl Turner2.
There’s really no point trying to explain to others—especially those stuck in the Windows/PC camp—why some people just love Mac and everything Apple stands for. It isn't about the money. Sure, Mac computers might cost a bit more on average than standard PC brands, but that's not the issue here. At the end of the day, everyone knows what works for them.
It would be a complete waste of time trying to lecture traditional PC users on why they should switch from an OS where security holes, malware, spyware, and viruses are practically endless. Again, to each their own. They can live with it if they want.
P.S. I was using a Mac long before Steve Jobs returned to Apple in 1996. 🙂

Basically, short answer is no. Even if you download something sketchy, it won't really do anything because it won't be able to run.
I mean, there is a tiny little group of malware out there, but honestly, I've never run into any, and neither have anyone I know.

It all comes down to you, though—like, don't go clicking on weird emails from random models or whatever.
Just stay sharp and you'll be fine, no biggie.

EDIT: When I say Mac, I'm assuming you mean running macOS.
If you're running Windows on a Mac, then yeah, obviously you can, since viruses are tied to the software, not the actual hardware.

Usually, Apple hardware—well, excluding the iPhone and iPad—shows up in the US about a month after the official launch date.
Old stock usually ends up getting marked down by maybe $400 or so. Depends on which model you're looking at.

Every single vendor out there seems to offer a handful of different configurations, yet none of them actually stand out as a superior choice. You see all these convoluted bundles involving various discounts, but when you run the math, they rarely amount to anything worthwhile.
I’m curious to hear your thoughts on the best way to handle this—what specific procedure or vendor would you recommend for making the purchase?
Should I look at Best Buy? Maybe check Amazon? Or just go with a direct cash deal?
I could really use some solid intel before I pull the trigger.

Not sure about the best way to buy one... personally, I just went with cash through Craigslist, they don't really ask questions about who you are 🙂
Man, all their sales suck, except for when the new stuff arrives and they start slashing prices on old stock to clear the shelves. That's the only thing I've noticed that actually works. Most of those other big retail expos are just trying to offload ancient models at prices that aren't even that great. You might find some decent peripherals there, but as for actual Macs? Not worth it.

I have been struggling quite a bit, honestly. I just can't seem to get a firm grip on these workflow changes. I keep falling back on those mindless little habits I picked up back when I was using Windows, and I find myself reaching for them instinctively because, frankly, I don't have the luxury of time; once I sit down, I just want to power through my tasks as fast as possible and move on with my life. 🙂
But I will admit, it is fantastic. My productivity has shot up; I'm getting through things so much faster now!

On another note, does anyone happen to know about the radiation levels from these devices? It’s actually becoming a bit of a headache for me at night... I try to turn it off, but I still find myself worrying about it while I sleep...
