It’s not like they’re emitting anything more than just other carbon emissions, honestly. Besides, Apple products are actually pretty green when it comes to sustainability 🙂

The iMac is a joke.... You drop 13k on a Core 2 Duo, an HD 5670, and 2 gigs of RAM. For 13k, you should be getting one of the most powerful machines ever made. And look, I'm not saying go out and buy an HP just because it's a PC—that's garbage too. I'm not trying to compare how much better a Mac is than a PC.

Every computer is built for someone specific, right? It meets certain needs. Plus, the specs you're throwing out for that iMac version are completely wrong anyway.
And seriously, let's just accept reality: a Mac is a Mac, and a PC is a PC (meaning Windows-based). Can we please stop with the aggressive spec-warring...

I've got this older iMac from 2007 that I just leave running constantly. The only time it actually restarts is when there’s a system update, though I make sure to shut it down if a bad storm rolls through.
My sleep hasn't gotten any worse just because my bed and my desk with my iMac are practically on top of each other.

Personally, I wouldn’t want that much electronics buzzing right next to my head; health should always be the primary concern, after all.

Regarding the whole debate about whether to shut things down or just leave them on standby—well, thank you, but I actually tested this myself. After going a month without it and then bringing it back into rotation (purposely leaving it on standby), it ended up consuming $17 more electricity... if not significantly more...
On that note, has anyone here actually sat down and calculated their peak power consumption? I am genuinely curious about those specific technical specs. 🙂

I always make sure my machines are in sleep mode whenever I'm not using them. I don't bother shutting them down at all, whether it's my desktop or my laptop.

Since it’s about $220 more expensive here in the States, I think I'll just pick it up while I'm in Austria... not counting the travel costs, obviously, since I'm pretty much heading over there every two weeks anyway...

I was wondering about something... can I actually just buy the iMac by itself, without the mouse and keyboard? It looks like everything at the Apple Store is only sold as a bundle... 🤷
I’ve got this Magic Mouse sitting at home that I haven't even touched... couldn't get it to pair with my old MacBook Pro because the OS was just too outdated... now I really need an American keyboard because of certain symbols, and I can't be bothered to learn the international layout and start sticking little paper scraps over the keys to fix the accents... 🙂
So, the plan is to just pick up the iMac while I'm over in Austria, then grab the keyboard and mouse back home... though I am still wondering if there will be any software compatibility issues later on... 🤷

If you order through the Apple Store (USA), the Magic Mouse and Apple keyboard are bundled right into the price.
Alternatively, you could try your luck at a local retailer, maybe even haggle for an iMac without any peripherals, though I wouldn't hold my breath.

As for the keyboard, honestly, as long as it’s USB or Bluetooth, you shouldn't have any issues. Usually, you can just check the manufacturer's site (like Logitech) to see if the keyboard is labeled Mac-friendly or if there's a specific driver available. That said, just because there isn't a dedicated driver doesn't mean it won't work perfectly fine with a Mac.

On my 2007 iMac, iStat Pro Dashboard shows the ambient temp at 82°F, the hard drive at 100°F, and the CPU at 106°F. If I had central AC running, things might actually feel a bit fresher. 😁

Meanwhile, when I check directly through the manufacturer, the prices are way, way lower. My question is: hypothetically, could I buy a warranty code from overseas, register it online, and still have the exact same rights and coverage as if I had purchased it locally here in the States?

Did your monitor actually die, or were you being vague—because with an all-in-one, the screen is basically the entire computer.
If you're really set on trying to fix that relic, take it to a local repair shop to see if they can swap out any components. Otherwise, just tell us your budget for a new setup and what you plan to use it for.

They told me it isn't even worth paying for repairs.
I just need a new machine for work...nothing crazy, just Microsoft Office and some accounting software...the usual stuff.
I'm looking for something with that specific system, look, and feel.
My budget is pretty tight, so I'm looking for the cheapest option possible...either brand new or used.
It has to be a Mac.🙂
