Anyone know where I can find amino acid profiles for plant foods? Meat, dairy, fish... they've got all the essentials, but it's the sides that matter too. Since most plants are missing a few key aminos, a lot of that protein just ends up being burned for energy instead of building muscle. But if you pair them right—like beans with rice or something—you can hit those full profiles and maximize everything you eat while keeping calories down. Does anyone have links to these charts online? Looking for specific combos, maybe like beans + wheat + potatoes, that balance out perfectly for muscle growth...

Why? It’s just way easier to toss an extra few ounces of meat onto your plate than it is to sit there calculating whether you need 500 or 800 grams of veggies. Honestly, vegetables just don't have enough amino acids or protein to even be considered a viable source for them.
If you really want to dig into the data, you should check out http://nutritiondata.self.com/
You can pull up a full amino acid profile for pretty much any food you search for.
It’s a misconception that plants are somehow loaded with certain amino acids. High-protein foods are high in amino acids; plants mostly just contain trace amounts.

I can already see this spiraling into yet another heated vegan flame war. It’s just plain wrong to claim that plants only offer trace amounts of amino acids; I mean, soy actually provides a complete amino acid profile on its own.

If anyone is actually looking for real answers, they should head over to the Meatless Cooking subforum over in the Foodie section—I’m fairly certain I’ve already addressed this exact question there more times than I care to count. Lock.
