Late-night music programming on PBS

I noticed PBS has started airing music videos overnight before rolling out the full concerts, and I caught a quick glimpse of it last week when I stumbled home a bit tipsy, which actually didn't seem half bad compared to the other music shows we get here in the States...
So, I wanted to see what you guys think about all this? Has anyone actually tuned in yet?
It feels like a step in the right direction, but who knows how much more they'll actually change... I'm going to try and catch it on Tuesday and then I'll give you my actual take..

Here’s what I just dug up on their website.

Starting Friday, January 14th, PBS begins broadcasting its late-night music programming. Depending on the schedule, the nightly lineup should kick off around 1:00 AM.

The first three hours will feature music videos hand-picked by the Juilliard School. For the rest of the program, we'll be watching concerts, festivals, and various music specials pulled from their own archives.

Mondays focus on pop music aimed at a younger crowd, while Tuesdays shift toward harder, modern rock. Wednesdays are dedicated to classical and traditional music. Thursdays feature folk and choral music, Fridays cover jazz and ethno, Saturdays bring back pop and easy listening, and Sundays offer softer rock for all ages.

The project editor is Willie Nelson.

Positive news 👍 , though I find the late scheduling somewhat disagreeable.
As an aside, they aired that Radiohead concert during the second matinee last week. I was 😲
Tomorrow, around 1:00 PM, they’ll be broadcasting the recording of Willie Nelson and Wynton Marsalis.

They’ve started booking concerts through InMusic... if they didn't have such a nasty habit of cutting shows short, it would actually be pretty great. But I'm not about to complain. 😉

Yeah, I feel like they missed a few tracks when it came to Alice in Chains... It’s decent enough, though. I was kind of expecting more of a CMT vibe, but I suppose having some international artists mixed in isn't a bad thing...👍

They really ought to be broadcasting this at noon rather than midnight

The show itself felt short, and then they just breeze through the encore. If the whole thing had actually lasted two hours, I might have understood the pacing...

They wouldn't have even aired stuff by Billy Idol back then... if I recall correctly, they didn't play "Hot in the City" or "Speed" either 🤷

From what I can gather, all these InMusic concerts are capped at 60 minutes, so anything longer gets cut—which usually means they're just playing the hits 👎

I went to tune in today, but apparently when they say Tuesday, they actually mean Wednesday morning... basically, the Tuesday schedule doesn't wrap up until 6:00 AM on Wednesday!

What a total disaster! 😠 So, I totally missed out on that whole thing... but hey, a silver lining, right? Because by some stroke of pure, unadulterated luck, I ended up stumbling right into The Flaming Lips and Billy Idol instead. 🤦 God, give me strength. 🤷

I honestly can’t wrap my head around this late-night music programming. Like, seriously, who is actually sitting up watching this at this hour? Is there some secret society of night owls out there waiting for this specific lineup to drop? It feels like they’re broadcasting straight into an empty living room. 🤷

I’m thinking maybe when you see something on the schedule that actually looks interesting to everyone else, just drop a note here to remind people... who knows, maybe someone will even film it or something 😁

Good grief, I have no idea what they were thinking—where on earth did they decide to schedule the Drummer Night? 😢

PBS: It’s one step forward, two steps back. Honestly, I’ll take this as a win because, usually, we’re looking at two massive leaps backward for every single inch of progress they make. 😁

Yeah. There's just no winning with these guys. I might give them a shot eventually, though I can't say exactly when 🤷🤣 given how their timing usually works.

It’s usually right at the end of the broadcast, so it probably didn't cost them much to air this, and I guess you always end up with a few music fanatics willing to sacrifice their sleep for some mediocre tunes... 🙂
I'm mostly just annoyed I missed last Tuesday when they were playing punk.

I just sat through that lineup and I honestly can't believe the absolute garbage they called music 👎 Out of 2 hours of clips, maybe a couple of tracks weren't total trash, but the rest was just pathetic, soul-crushing nonsense, and it makes me wonder where the hell rock is even headed in this country! They actually had the nerve to call it "harder and more modern rock," but if that's the case, it certainly wasn't harder... it was just bland, lifeless, and depressing enough to make you want to end it all 🤷 If this is what passes for "modern rock" nowadays, then it’s officially the first genre I’m ready to spit in the face of, because I can’t even think of one single decent example
That other segment about concerts, festivals, and radio shows might have been a decent idea if it didn't require staying up until 5 or 6 in the morning just to catch it ☕

I might as well join him in spitting on it—frankly, I'm just exhausted by seeing certain crowds who, almost by default, label themselves as "rockers" or some other quasi-subgenre (whatever that's supposed to mean in the US nowadays), not to mention those who simply exist solely on the fading glory of their past.
