for any orders over $53, you're looking at Customs and Border Protection fees plus sales tax.

With a 23% tax rate and customs hitting up to 15%, you're basically adding maybe 38% to whatever price tag you saw online.

Depending on how big the package is and the shipping method, the mail carrier might just drop it at your door along with a declaration form you pay right then and there, or you might get a notice saying you have to swing by the local post office to settle up.

Actually, I think customs is calculated after the tax is applied, so it ends up being closer to 41.45%. You can't really just add them together like simple math.

I mean, you could just aim for a rough estimate if you want, but honestly, it’s probably smarter to just budget for about 50% more than you think...
plus, when you're dealing with those bigger, heavier shipments, you've got to factor in the extra storage fees they tack on at the end😉

as for customs and PayPal, there are tons of deep dives on the finance subreddits if you feel like reading through them, but basically, PayPal just acts as the middleman for your payments and usually adds a decent layer of protection to the whole transaction
