The whole thing felt pretty substantial. There wasn't a massive crush right by the stage while they were playing, though the venue itself was packed. Honestly, the vibe and the setlist were definitely a step up from that July show at Madison Square Garden. The band seemed totally locked in, and you could just feel the energy in the room building up. It did dip slightly for a moment when they played those two longer tracks from "the one to see the one and be," mostly because the crowd clearly lives for those raw rock n' roll anthems; I guess those extended psychedelic jams just weren't really hitting the mark for people.
They performed "Little Man" by Carl and "Plastic" by Idol. Most of the set was pulled from "Distortion," "Where to be now," and "the one to see the one and be." That said, they peppered in some other hits like "petrified," "unite oneself now," "sex drugs nations and fear," "play rock n roll in Yugoslavia," "how drum Kazoo," and even "Locomotion"...
Oh, and they also played "Formal White Shirts." Then they went back to the early stuff—you know, "You," "waiter," "golden parrot," "crocodile"...
And yeah, they even did "Infection" from the debut album. It’s kind of an interesting choice, given how things sounded during the peak of the pandemic era.😁

Some girls were lighting flares... you can see it if you watch the video.

One thing that seems to have vanished—though I suppose it might be due to COVID restrictions or maybe just a change in their management style—
is the fact that they started ushering everyone out right at midnight. Back in the day, I was used to the idea that once the concert wraps up, people would hang out and socialize until 4 AM. That's when the real fun begins. This felt more like, "Come to the show and then get out immediately." I'm not particularly a fan of that approach.
I actually had to lend them a hand with a few things, so I didn't get much of a chance to mingle with the ladies, which is usually my favorite part of any show—always something to see. It's honestly the best part, especially when you already know every single lyric by heart and have seen the show a million times; it lets you focus on everything else.😁 But it looks like there wouldn't have been much time for that anyway.
The band showed up around 8:30 PM. They probably started clearing people out about half an hour before that. The music kicked off around 9:00 or shortly thereafter. By midnight, everyone was being marched out the door.😁

We used to always head over to Apple for the afterparty, but Apple isn't an option anymore. I haven't quite figured out where everyone migrated to, since it was a Saturday and I was too busy helping the band with other stuff to go around asking questions.
All in all, the concert was exactly what it should have been. The atmosphere, the performance—everything felt right.
That Madison Square Garden gig was decent enough, I suppose, but compared to this, it felt like they were just going through the motions. This one was absolutely electric.

So, yeah...

Thanks for the update!
I can never seem to catch them at the right time.😵

Giles, Electric Light Orchestra, interview..

They're filming a live DVD at the factory, and they've put together a special setlist specifically to celebrate the reissue of their second album.
Tickets are available $33 through Entria.
November 26, 2022, at the Culture Factory in Washington, D.C.
I suppose I'll see some of you there if anyone actually plans on going. 👍
