Supplemental Insurance: What are your thoughts?

Hey there... So, I just wrapped up high school and now I'm heading out on my own. I was wondering if I actually need to register with the unemployment office just to make sure I have supplemental health insurance coverage? This is pretty urgent for me 😕😕😕

Just so you know, signing up through the unemployment office doesn't actually grant you supplemental coverage; you’re just getting the standard basic health insurance plan. You don't have to worry about paying for the supplemental side if you're a full-time student, though all those part-time students find themselves stuck footing the bill for it.

If you’re feeling some serious pressure to get things sorted with State Farm, just keep in mind they usually have that supplemental coverage kicked in within about two weeks, whereas if you're looking at Medicare, you might be waiting a full month... though I will admit, State Farm is going to run you a tiny bit more on the premium side... but hey, if you're in a real bind, maybe just don't sweat the extra few bucks too much 😁

If you're currently unemployed, your field of study doesn't really matter; you're still entitled to free supplemental health insurance.
If you actually have a job, though, you'll likely have to pay a premium, and I suppose the amount depends on your salary level.
It might be worth checking in with whoever handles the contracts over at Medicare. My brother, for instance, just had his supplemental insurance card mailed directly to his house without any hassle.
