For anyone craving a decent movie without all the mindless explosions and gunfights. This indie drama by writer-director Spencer Susser actually crushed it at this year's Sundance Film Festival. It stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Natalie Portman, plus Rainn Wilson. No word yet on the official release date.

PLOT
After the tragic loss of his Mother, T. J. (Broch and his pill-popping father (Wilson) end up living with T.J.'s elderly grandmother. A young man with a troubled pasti named Hesher (Gordon-Levitt) acts as both a mentor and a menace, dragging T.J. into trouble he never saw coming. A grocery clerk named Nicole (Portman) steps in to save T.J. during a brutal attack, becoming the center of his fantasies once Hesher moves in with Grandma. Even though nobody asked him to stay, he somehow fits right in.

Why on earth is the movie logo a total rip-off of the Metallica logo? 🤷

No clue... maybe it’s just because he plays some metalhead protagonist in the movie LOL😁🤷

I can totally see Lars Ulrich rounding up a whole army of lawyers just to squeeze every last cent out of them. 😁 They're pretty much screwed. Unless, I don't know, they're actually producing the music for them.

Word is the movie's decent, mostly because Hesher (Gordon-Levitt) is absolutely killing it.

Supposedly.

What’s the hold-up here? It hasn't even seen a proper release in the USA yet, so I’ll be shocked if it ever makes it to theaters over here.

It’s actually slated for an April release over in the States, since they managed to track down a distributor. 🙂

Oh, man, I just finally wrapped my head around this whole thing. So, it’s coming out in April? Alright, fine, whatever. It sounds decent enough—I guess I'll go catch it in theaters once it actually hits the big screen.

Isss, man, even if J. g. Levitt is involved, that trailer looks legit! I actually think this movie might be pretty good.

Well, it’s because Metallica actually gave them the exclusive rights to use it! They also let them use their music in the film, which—honestly—is something they almost never do for anyone else.

Here’s J. g. Levitt talking all about it (man, he is just such a gem 😍)

It took me forever to track down a decent copy of this movie, I have no idea why, so I'm putting it right at the very top of my super short list of best movies from 2011.

It's great. Like Natalie mentioned before, the movie is just packed with emotion, but somehow it completely avoids being sappy, which I guess is pretty rare these days.

Great stuff. Like Natalie mentioned, it’s packed with emotion without ever feeling cheesy, which is honestly pretty rare.

I’m with you. This movie blew me away. Not bored for even a second. The acting was spot on across the board, but J. g. Levitt really stole the show for me.👍

Absolutely brilliant film—I’m completely hooked. Honestly, Joseph has been keeping me on my toes lately with his work. That ending? Pure genius. 🙂
