Anyone know a decent cycling route from Oakland to Aurora?

I really want to bypass New York City and stay away from heavy traffic roads (like Av. Bolonje, Buzin, veligorički cesta, etc.).

I was checking out a path through Boulder, Stupnik, Brezovica, Čeh, Mlaka... something like that. It looks like about 60km, which is fine, but I can't tell if the route is actually doable just looking at Google Earth and Google Maps...

Have you thought about taking the ferry over toward the Boulder side, then cutting through Ježdovec toward the port area, hitting Brezovica, Botinec, the Čeh neighborhood, Mali Mlaka, Odar, Donja Lomnica, the little townships, Kurilovec... and boom, you’re in Aurora.

And for the way back, you’ve got Aurora, Vel. Mlaka, Mičevec, Jakuševec, N. Chicago-Bundek, then follow the embankment down to Jarun, hit the Jankomirski most bridge, head down Obalni ulica—maybe grab some King Cross while you're at it—back to the old Boulder road, take the ferry again, and you're back in Zapresica.
That should be more than enough 37 miles if you ask me...
Either way, it's a solid route.
Pretty chill, though it'll probably take you the whole damn day.
I'm from Aurora myself, so if you need anything at all, just ask.🙂

Yeah, I was definitely thinking about the ferry (hit Medsave then head to Vrbovec Samoborski) because I don't think there's any other way to get from Oakland to that area.

The route you described looks pretty much like what I sketched out on Google Earth, but honestly, I'm not sure if it's actually doable. A few times I've been surprised to find a "road" on the map is actually just some dirt track swallowed by 12 inches of mud... depending on the resolution, it’s hard to tell a real road apart from junk sometimes.

Anyway, I assume all those spots you mentioned are connected by actual roads? Thanks, I'll try to map out a route through them and see how it goes...

I'll have to look into that; I didn't quite catch the route... that part along the embankment, is it a beaten path? If it's just gravel and I have to slow down, I might just stick to the original way for speed. Plus, the old Samoborska looks busier than those tiny towns on the way to Aurora.

Pretty chill, should take a full day.
I'm actually from Aurora, so if you need anything, just ask.🙂

Awesome, thanks! 🙂 I'll study the route on Google Maps and let you know... 37 miles one way is exactly what I had planned.

Know any other good paths around Aurora? Or maybe around Oakland since you know the ferry situation too... 🙂

Regarding the area around Aurora,
I actually just finished an awesome ride through the Vukomerički Gorica hills yesterday.
I posted a few shots over in the "Do you guys cycle?" thread.
The route is incredibly chill—just smooth roads, hardly any traffic, and a nice stretch through the woods. It actually got me thinking... if you were coming from Oakland, you could cut through Brezovica to get there. Man, it would be such a blast if all those paths were connected so you could just roll straight into Aurora.
Take a look if you're interested—I'll try to put together a route link for you.
I'm pretty sure you'd dig it...

Here’s the route from the port area up to Aurora—it looks like it’s about 26 miles miles.

Now you just gotta figure out how far you've got to go to reach the port to get an actual measurement.
If you want, I could meet up with you somewhere along the 9.3 miles route—maybe near Markuševac Turopoljskij around there, then we can head all the way to Aurora.
The trip back through Bundek over to Jarun, just like I told you before, is totally fine...
I ride the Aurora to Jarun route
all the time.

Hey, thanks for the route and the heads-up, looks pretty cool... didn't know about that site, it's super easy to map things out when it automatically snaps everything to the roads.

Anyway, looking at your path, I could easily link it up with Oakland (http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=3834219) but I don't get how you connected Gustelnica to Kozjača on your route (km 24 to 26).

No biggie, I'll hit you up once I actually decide to try this. I'm a total newbie, so if you've been riding forever, I might just end up slowing you down. 🙂

Anyway, looking at your route, it's easy enough for me to link up with Atlanta (http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=3834219), but I'm totally lost on how you connected Green Valley to Oak Ridge (km 24 to 26).

I'll definitely hit you up once I decide to give this a shot. I'm basically a total newbie though, so if you've been riding for ages, I might just end up slowing you down... 🙂

Everything leading to Green Valley is paved, but then there's this one stretch of about 3.1 miles through the woods.
The path is gravel—hardpack, really good riding. And after those 3.1 miles through the forest, you're right near Oak Ridge and it's back to pavement all the way.
Look, I haven't been riding that long either.
I average about 62 miles a week... strictly recreational... but I've got the drive.😉)
