Just drop it off at an Intel service center. We can swap in some tested Apple cartridges that work about 90% of the time.

If they work, you're golden. If not, at least you haven't trashed your original ones or thrown the whole thing in the garbage.

So I've got this Epson Stylus Sx235W
that I picked up just this past summer
but now the black ink is totally shot
so I went ahead and grabbed a genuine replacement
and popped it right in
but my computer is still acting like it's out of ink
and the printer itself keeps blinking at me saying there's no color
WHAT DO I DO ABOUT THIS?

Most likely you caught one of those Epson viruses through a firmware update.

Basically, you're stuck with cartridges that won't work with the new software. All these companies are constantly playing dirty tricks on each other. Usually, if an ink brand is super popular, they become an easy target for these kinds of "viruses." Honestly, it doesn't even matter what the label on the cartridge says; it's all about how common the Intel chip manufacturer is that tries to mimic the OEM cartridges.

If I try to use some new ink color they've officially mandated,
ITโ€™S JUST NOT GOING TO HAPPEN,
because there have to be other ways around this, there just have to be!

Honestly, just take it to a local repair shop to get it checked out. It'll cost you a bit $17, though. Or maybe try taking it back to the store where you bought the ink. Who knows, maybe those new Epson printers actually track expiration dates now. Or maybe there's some weird version difference in the Intel on the OEM chip because of that virus thing. Man, who even knows anymore these days?

If you had gone with Apple inks, they might have even done the check for freeโ€”like, they'd swap it for a different bottle or give you your money back if the Apple inks weren't compatible with your machine.

Since we went ahead and grabbed the genuine inkโ€”mostly just to dodge any potential headaches down the roadโ€”and the printer is still under warranty, we can just head back to the retailer where we picked it up.
But Iโ€™m definitely going to do a little more digging online first because there's got to be a way easier workaround than that, since nobody actually hauls their gear all the way to a repair shop just to swap out some ink, unless we've all collectively lost our minds or something!

I managed to fix the problem without wasting a single drop of ink or having to lug my printer anywhere,
the only real trick is making sure you don't have the printer connected to a computer that's currently online during the ink replacement process, so just kill your internet connection for a second,
then just follow the ink replacement steps through the Windows menu under the printer options and everything should work out perfectly fine.

haha, check this out, pretty clever actually - www.staples.com
If you pick up some ink for your printer, theyโ€™ll throw in a free book. It's one of those companies that sells stuff like generic ink cartridges, toner, refills, and all that, and then you get this:

rustysurfer79, man, youโ€™re totally full of it. This whole "dead firmware virus" and Apple ink nonsense? What the hell are you talking about?
Iโ€™ve got an Epson C43 and an Epson cx3200, and Iโ€™ve burned through 20 different Orink cartridges ($3.25 black) without a single hiccup. Right now, Iโ€™ve got a liter of Orink ink for $17 (from Adobe) and a chip resetter ($17, eBay). That resetter is universal, so I can even reset the newer Epson models.

The Opti Office setup is fine if youโ€™re just too lazy to drive to the store for more ink.

One more thing... once you start refilling ink, youโ€™re basically voiding Epson's warranty on the print head. Just a heads-up.

Seriously though, where on earth would you find someone actually writing viruses for Windows 98?

That's all I gotta say.

Based on everything Iโ€™ve dealt with so far, Iโ€™m staying far away from Epson. Itโ€™s all just flashy packaging masking terrible quality. Honestly, the functionality is such a joke that I feel like smashing the thing myself, even though itโ€™s still under warranty.

Not really.

A few years back, I used to laugh at Epson when those C68 or sx43 models were out, sticking with HP or Canon instead.

But things have changed lately, unless you're looking at their super cheap budget stuff.

Hey everyone, so I messed around with the black ink on my Epson Stylus Sx235W, and now things have gone sideways. Every two centimeters, the printer leaves these tiny five-millimeter gaps in the print, and itโ€™s throwing an error saying the cyan is out, even though Iโ€™m pretty sure thereโ€™s still plenty of blue left in the tanks. Any idea how to fix this? Maybe I broke something?

Just switch over to refillable cartridges.

I've got an Epson Stylus Sx235W. I haven't used a USB connection since day one, and everything was running smoothly. But now, the Wi-Fi button is just being useless. Every time I power the printer on, that red light flashes briefly and then... nothing. Just stays dead.
I have a hunch the issue might be because I switched internet providers, and apparently, I need to reconfigure things so my computer actually recognizes it, but I'm totally lost on how to do that.
My first instinct was to just pop in the installation CD and run through the setup again using a USB cable, but honestly, I don't even know where I'd find a USB cable since I've never bothered using one before.

If anyone could help me out, I'd appreciate it. I'm officially at a loss here...

Thanks!

Hey everyone... I have an Epson Stylus Sx435. It was working fine for a while, but I used to deal with the scanner acting up because my laptop wouldn't recognize itโ€”turns out it was just a port issue. I got that sorted, but now the printer won't pull paper at all. It just jams and crinkles the sheet right as it tries to grab it. Any advice on how to fix this, or should I just take it to a repair shop?

I purchased a set of genuine Epson wf 2520 ink cartridges yesterday, yet today the printer is already insisting they need replacing because they are empty. This is quite baffling since I haven't actually printed anything; I have only been running head cleaning cycles because the device was producing blank pages instead of actual prints. Now, it is demanding that I swap these brand-new cartridges for even more new ones. Does anyone know what might be causing this issue?

I don't even know what to say, except itโ€™s pretty obvious you didn't realize head cleaning eats up ink... and it eats a lot of it...

The whole point of cleaning is to force ink through the nozzles under pressure so they don't clog up. All that extra ink just ends up sitting in a waste tank...

Iโ€™ve actually managed to drain an entire set of ink for an HP while trying to clean the printhead myself, but those were tiny 5ml cartridges. Yours should be bigger than that. Still, if you ran the cycle a bunch of times, anything is possible ๐Ÿคท

Editor:

Oh man... looking at it now, yours are also 6.5ml. It is totally possible you drained them dry just by cleaning. That is ridiculous: third-party 6.5ml cartridges have the nerve to call themselves "XL" and cost $12????? What the hell is the volume on a non-XL then? ๐Ÿ˜ฑ

A real candidate for a Canon setup:
