Hey ladies. Just joined the group, so here’s my situation. I’m 26, same as my boyfriend.
We’ve been trying to conceive for about six months now. I’ve been tracking my ovulation cycles religiously, but nothing's happening. So far, all I've had is an ultrasound, which showed a 6mm cyst. I doubt that's the main issue, so I'm wondering what else could be going wrong... Just trying to brace myself for whatever bad news the doctor drops when I finally go in.

If you've been trying for about a year without any luck, that’s usually when doctors start talking about infertility. Actually, some experts say you can even wait up to two years before really worrying... so you still have plenty of time, honestly. Don't stress too much. And regarding the whole infertility thing, there are just so many different factors that could be at play, for both you and your partner.

I don't think it's quite that black and white. I know plenty of couples who spent years trying before they finally succeeded. There are so many variables involved in getting pregnant; it doesn't necessarily mean there's an underlying fertility issue right out of the gate.

It’s certainly not a given that infertility has to kick in after such a short window—really, it isn't. I know quite a few couples who spent an entire year trying without any major hurdles at all, and then, just like that, they finally succeeded. In fact, we're actually waiting on a baby from a couple just like them right now!

I really don't think that's what's causing the issue, but I'm wondering what else could be going on? I want to brace myself for some bad news before I head back to the doctor to tell them what's up.

I don't get this.😕 You're 26, you're actively trying to get pregnant, and you haven't even had a full exam by an OB-GYN yet!😲 Did I miss something here?🤷

We've been trying to conceive for about six months now. I've been tracking my ovulation cycles religiously, but nothing is happening. So far, I've only had an ultrasound done, which showed a 6mm cyst. I don't really think that's the main culprit, but I'm starting to wonder what else could be getting in the way. I'd love to know what potential issues I should prepare myself for before I head back to my doctor to discuss everything.

A cyst can definitely mess with your ovulation...
You didn't mention if your cycle is regular or not...
What did your doctor suggest doing next?

Sorry, I didn't get to finish everything earlier... just wanted to say that out of all the tests, only the ultrasound turned up anything—they found a cyst on my ovary. I also had four targeted swabs done, plus HPV, Candida, and a couple of others I can't quite recall, but the results for the Candida came back clear. They also sent us both in for blood work because I have this hereditary condition, heterozygous beta thalassemia. It’s nothing life-threatening, but I need annual blood checks. They wanted to test my boyfriend too, since if we both carried it, our kids would likely be sick, but it turns out he's fine. Honestly, I felt like such an idiot having to explain this to my gynecologist... when I mentioned wanting to get pregnant, she just gave me this blank, judgmental look, like she was questioning my sanity, and then actually asked *me* which tests I wanted to run. Of course, I didn't know what was required, so I just told her I'd do whatever was necessary. That's pretty much the whole story

Kate Gonzalez70 said:My apologies, I didn't quite finish my thought earlier. What I meant to say was that out of all the screenings, only the ultrasound showed anything unusual—they found a small cyst on my ovary. Aside from that, I had four targeted swabs done, along with testing for HPV and Candida, plus two other tests I can't quite recall. The results for the Candida and everything else came back perfectly fine. We were also sent to get bloodwork done for both myself and my partner because I carry a hereditary condition called heterozygous beta thalassemia. It’s nothing life-threatening, but it requires an annual blood checkup to stay on top of it. They asked my boyfriend to be tested as well, because if we both carried the trait, there would be a high probability of our children being born with the disease. Fortunately, he’s clear. I have to admit, I felt the need to correct my gynecologist, which felt a bit silly. When we discussed my desire to conceive, she just gave me this blank, judgmental stare, as if she were questioning my sanity, before asking me exactly which tests I wanted to run. Since I obviously didn't know the full clinical checklist, I simply told her I would undergo whatever testing was necessary. That's essentially the situation.

Why don't you join us over at The Beatles? It’s a dedicated subforum for those of us hoping to conceive soon. You'll find plenty of people in the exact same boat.

Yeah, girls, after two years, it definitely counts. I know because I’m currently waiting on my residency to start, so that medical degree actually carries some weight 🙂 and I wasn't saying that two years equals 100% infertility... I just meant that at least that much time has to pass before we even start talking about that being a possibility.

My partner and I spent seven long months trying to conceive before we finally pulled it off. Honestly, those seven months felt more like seven years. Physically, everything seemed fine on our end—I was actually a smoker back then, too. But once I finally saw that little positive sign on the test, I started replaying everything in my head, wondering why it took us so long. The answer turned out to be pretty simple: every single time after we had sex, I’d get right up and start moving around instead of just lying there. At least, I think that was the main culprit. I don't know 🤷
