So, I’ve been a nail biter since I was 15—now I’m 21 and honestly, I can’t seem to kick the habit. It’s constant—while I’m watching TV, while I’m studying (which is actually when it’s most annoying), or basically whenever my hands aren't busy doing something else. When I tell people it’s just like a smoking addiction, they totally buy it... nobody believes me. They have no clue how brutal this actually is. Right now, my index finger on my right hand is a total disaster. Every time I bite it down, it gets all mangled and looks horrific until it finally heals—only for me to go back and do it again. What's weird is that even though I bite all my nails, this one specific finger is always the messiest. The worst part? While it's trying to heal—which feels like it takes forever—I have to constantly hide it so people don't see. And by "healing," I mean waiting for the nail to grow back naturally, but maybe there’s some way to speed up the process 🤷

So, you’re actually feeling embarrassed about it????!!!!
For me, that alone is more than enough reason to just call it quits entirely!!!!
I mean, you’re out here suggesting those ridiculous little hacks, like rubbing chili powder or black pepper onto the skin, though I honestly have no clue how anyone thinks that would actually help heal a wound!!

then there's those ridiculous little "hacks," like rubbing chili or pepper on them—as if that's supposed to fix wounds or anything!!

those tricks are honestly pretty laughable (like you said), and totally useless too...

I used to be a total nail biter for years, but what worked for me probably wouldn't work for you, so... I just decided to let them grow out and cover them up with nail art instead.. 😬

I totally get how you feel, but the only advice I can really give is to just stop touching that nail. 😍

I’ve been biting my nails for as long as I can remember—it's practically a lifelong habit at this point. I’ve tried quitting a few times before, but those bitter nail polishes? Total waste of money... they didn't do a damn thing for me. And don't even get me started on those "natural remedy" gimmicks like putting pepper on your nails—absolute nonsense. Everything changed when I finally just sat myself down and said, "That's it. No more." I used to be able to hold out for maybe two months before slipping up, but honestly, 😉 it's all in your head! I’m currently in the middle of another attempt, and I’ve actually made it four days without even thinking about them, let alone putting them in my mouth. I make sure to give them a nice manicure first, though—because let’s be real, seeing bits of chipped polish stuck between my teeth would be a total nightmare 🙂 ....there really is no other way than to just look at yourself and say—ENOUGH! Good luck to us all!!!

The only time I actually managed to stay away from them was when I had gel nails... but then one day, I just ended up biting right through the gel itself! 😲

Now, I "only" bite them... plus, I finally quit smoking... so now I'm just facing the final bills.

Nothing has ever really worked for me. After a few days, those super bitter nail polishes just stop working—it's like they become tasteless. And honestly, trying to fix the actual habit? That's all happening deep in my head, and I just can't seem to reach it.🙄

A few years back, ESTÉE LAUDER had this clear nail polish with a super nasty coating designed specifically to help people quit biting their nails. The taste was incredibly bitter, and I know quite a few people who swear it actually worked for them! You should definitely look into it; there's a chance they might still have it available somewhere.

Maybe I’m losing it... I don't bite my nails, but my boyfriend does, and it's honestly gross..
The wedding is only six months away, and he just can't stop? Ugh.
