Hey everyone...

I have a quick question for anyone who’s been through this...

Basically, I've been on birth control for about a year and a half now—and this is actually my last pack.
I'm finally stopping because I want to start trying for a baby soon—and I know it takes some time for your body to reset after being on those things...

So, what should I be taking? Any specific vitamins, minerals, or supplements to help my system get back to "natural" as fast as possible?

Thanks a lot 🙂

whatever, once you get your next period, those hormones are totally flushed out of your system

Honestly, it’s just smarter to start on folic acid now since you’re going to need it for pregnancy anyway, but you should definitely check with your OBGYN about the exact timing. Taking folic acid beforehand and during pregnancy really helps cut down the risk of birth defects.

The reason I'm stopping is because I want to start trying for a baby soon—and I know it can take some time for your body to reset after being on those pills.

Thanks so much! 🙂

Honestly, there isn't really anything you need to "recover" from...
If your cycles have always been regular and you've been ovulating, you'll likely be pregnant before you know it.
It would be a smart move to go get a full blood panel (KFC) done after a month or so, especially if you haven't had one checked in the last year...
I mean, just a standard checkup—blood work, iron levels, liver function, a urine test... it’s not strictly mandatory, but it gives you peace of mind knowing you're healthy and ready to dive in.👍
You could even start on a prenatal vitamin right now... or just stick to folic acid if you're already eating plenty of fruits, veggies, and meat.
GNC carries folic acid, and it'll run you about $20...
And obviously, forget about cigarettes, and stay away from alcohol too. Just relax and let nature take its course when the timing is right during your cycle...😍mid-cycle...

When you're planning to get pregnant, you should ideally be on folic acid for about three months beforehand...
Since all the major organs develop during that first trimester... you've gotta stay on top of the folic acid...
A prenatal vitamin can be taken throughout the entire pregnancy and even while breastfeeding if your diet isn't super diverse...

I read somewhere that you can actually start even earlier, though it didn't specify exactly how much sooner and I haven't personally tested it out yet.

Yeah, I read that too—that the hormones from birth control actually help protect your fertility, so there’s zero need for extra hormone-support vitamins or whatever; you just have to wait for them to clear out of your system.

It's more about how hormones are always present in your body, just at different levels...
Once you stop taking the pill, your ovaries take back the reins and start ovulation again, which the pill was simply suppressing...
There are actually plenty of benefits to birth control if it's prescribed to healthy women who don't smoke...
Most women just aren't aware of that, especially after everything went down with the Beyaz situation.🤷

Look, I get it—it's just the same hormones we already have naturally, just packed into pills at way higher doses, exactly like you said. I used Beyaz before and never had an issue, but I definitely noticed that girls who were stacking Beyaz and Accutane together really took a hit, so it’s pretty obvious Beyaz hasn't been studied enough yet.

Or Accutane... You really need to think this through and talk to a doctor before starting that stuff...

And honestly, what you're saying might be true—Accutane probably hasn't even been fully studied enough yet

Anyway, let's not get sidetracked by that right now since we're talking about birth control pills...
They aren't just for preventing pregnancy, either. Doctors prescribe them for all sorts of different women's health issues.
I just meant that if a doctor takes a really thorough history and then prescribes them, they probably know exactly what they're doing.😠

Thanks, ladies..

I've been taking Celeste for about a year and a half now—and honestly, they've been great from day one. No nausea or anything—it was actually kind of weird, I felt like I wasn't even taking them... 👍
and I was really happy with the results 🙂

As for smoking—I don't touch the stuff, never have 🙂
and regarding alcohol—maybe a beer or two when I'm out on the town and that's it... you just don't get those crazy hangovers like you did back in your twenties!

I've heard people talking about that folic acid...
they come in pill form—does anyone know of any good brands they'd recommend?😛

Thanks

They come in pill form, right? Does anyone know of any good brands that are highly recommended? 😛

Thanks

Well, like I mentioned above, go with GNC or Life Time (they use the same distributor)...

Ladies, I am reaching out because I’m feeling a bit lost and honestly, quite confused...
So, here is the situation... I had been taking Longest continuously for three years straight, but I finally decided it was time to stop. My very last pill was on October 10th, 2011. Since then, my boyfriend and I have been trying every single day—we're basically hoping for a baby—but we haven't had any luck yet.
To give you the timeline: I took my last pill on Oct 10th, had my period on the 14th just like I always do after finishing the pack, then it came again on November 4th, and now it's arrived again today. I am just so incredibly discouraged right now... why is this happening? We are truly trying every single day and nothing is working. Can anyone please offer some insight or an answer? Help me! 😕
Starting a family is everything to us; we are even planning our wedding soon...

Oh, and one more thing—my period seems a bit heavier than usual this time.

Were your cycles always this short even before you started taking Longest? I mean, every 20 to 25 days is definitely not the standard rhythm. And did you actually manage to see a gynecologist during that gap in between? It really isn't wise to start thinking about pregnancy without getting a professional opinion first. Cycles that brief can stem from so many different underlying issues, and frankly, any one of them could end up being a hurdle for both conceiving and maintaining a pregnancy.

.............

😕🤷

So, what’s the actual question?

Are you asking about getting your period back, or are you bummed because you didn't get pregnant immediately?

🤷

Regarding the first part—your period comes when it wants to. Since you stopped taking the pill, you really ought to take a few months off just to let your system flush out all those chemicals. Honestly, you got your period, and that's actually a good thing.

As for getting pregnant? The easiest way to make it happen is to decide you definitely don't want to be pregnant, and then watch what happens...🤣
Just kidding, mostly. But it usually works.

There are women who struggle to conceive for years, so don't go complaining about not being pregnant right away—like she said, it's better this way so your body can reset. And from what I gather, you aren't married.

Get married first; don't go having kids with your boyfriend! ☕

Look, just because he’s finishing inside you five times a day doesn't mean your odds are higher. You aren't fertile every single day.
First off, get your cycle under control. Start tracking your body so you actually know when your fertile window is, otherwise you two are just going to end up exhausting each other for nothing. 🤣
And yeah, like the person above mentioned, jumping straight from the pill to trying for a baby isn't the smartest move. There can be a lot of complications—I've been there myself.

I honestly can't tell if that question deserves a laugh or a cry.

I don't see much point in opening up a massive debate here—we’d just end up spiraling into a million different tangents and getting completely sidetracked.

I've already laid out my perspective. I've lived enough life to know what I'm talking about—for instance, I actually started on birth control just two months ago (and yeah, I live with my boyfriend).

At the end of the day, if she... if anyone... decides they want to have a baby while unmarried, that’s their call to make. Neither I nor anyone else has the right to step in and stop them.
